re: Calcasieu River Bridge Needs Expansion!!!

The Sabine River Bridge and Trinity River Bridge about an hour west of the stateline on I-10 were equally as bad as the Calcasieu River Bridge. Sabine and Trinity River Bridges have since been fixed and are a breeze to drive over.
With the amount of deaths per year that this bridge draws, you would think the public would demand an expansion of some sort.

Seems like a bridge should have been built there a long time ago when compared to the labor and maintenance costs of the ferry.
I don't see it happening based on the low traffic count. Anyway, I like the ferry. BTW, the drive from Olla over the hills down to the ferry is the prettiest in the state, IYAM. If you didn't know better, you'd think you're in Arkansas.

there is one or two minority-owned businesses who use ships that couldn't work with a lower bridge, effectively threatening their business. that's the word in secret, at least

Just showing an example that narrow, steep bridges do indeed get expanded and restructured.
I won't get into why TXDOT is better than Louisiana DOTD.

I would say that old bridge over the Pearl River where Hwy. 11 comes to a dead end in Pearl River, La. It would be pretty great to have an alternate route into that wonderfully picturesque town of Picayune, Ms.

Probably the only good thing about the Calcasieu Bridge.

The St Claude bridge and Claiborne Bridge over the industrial canal suck balls. Claiborne bridge is always closed for repairs and St Claide bridge is always up for boat traffic.

it just got the OK for heavier use while they work on 210
The 210Bridge will be closed soon one side at a time in order to replace the entire concrete deck.

i also think that it's unsafe b/c of the angle of incline/decline and articles come out saying how it's unsafe but don't list why,
It was built on a 33 degree grade, the steepest allowed (at the time). I don't think they allow that now.

Could you be more specific in regards to which businesses would be affected?
The only one I can think of is the recycling facility.

overpass... That bridge/overpass on 90 in the Franklin/Berwick area.
YES. Passed over that today and it's horrendous. My tires practically come off the ground.

They need another bridge between the Mississippi River Bridge & the Sunshine bridge. That would repair a lot of traffic problems. Does that count?
I said 20 years ago, Interstate loop from I-10 between Grosse tete south to cross the river between Brusly & Addis to I-10 between Highland and Prarieville then north to I-12 between Denham and Walker.
Shits so built up now that will never happen.

Any word on future improvements to the Calcasieu Bridge?
The state has decided that infrastructure is not important. We broke now so it'll be quite a while before that bridge is fixed unless the Feds want to pay for it.
Well there are a few issues besides money. One isbthebheight of the span. Very steep. The new one they want lower but there is some resistance as one ship still docks north of there and needs the clearance. That can probably be done no problem.
The largest and most egregious issue is the large EDC leak from Conoco (Phillips 66) over here several years ago. It is above the aquifer but is migrating north. They monitor it and it does not go away overnight. Pylons to hold the bridge would need to be massive and set and they are worried disturbing the EDC and somehow punching it through to the water supply. Logistical nightmare
