Really a bunch of modern day pirates in a way. Except it’s “grifting” rather than outright theft. I’m f course I mean the questionable groups, not the guys just going and getting the job done.

Can't speak for others, but during the flood in 2016, that guy who was supposedly in charge of the Cajun Navy lead us on a wild goose chase all night.
He'd post on facebook "Anyone with a boat, we're launching here." We'd show up, and no one would be there. Then another facebook post "We're launching here instead." Show up. No one there. This happened a few times. His last video was after midnight, and he's sitting in his house talking about all the good work he did.
We slept in the truck, and the next morning found a cop who told us where to launch. He jumped on the boat and guided us around.
We did some good that day; pulled a few families out of their flooded houses. Donated all the food and water we brought to a local church that set up a food bank.
But that Cajun Navy guy frustrated the hell out of us.

And that's exactly what happened. The Cajun Navy was an idea, not an organization until several assholes decided they could make a buck off of it.
