Performance for the dollar is unmatched!
I am a tad disappointed at the 1/4 time as I had predicted it as about 1/2 a second faster in one of the earlier threads. Being a little portly is probably the cause. I bet the 10 speed on the horizon will be able to produce a high 10s 1/4.
For me all of that is beside the point, all I wanna see is the Z06 'Ring times. That will be the metric that puts it in its rightful place in the pantheon of supercars. Sub 6:50 should be the mark but it takes a whale of a car to get there.

Corvette Z06
We expect the C8 Corvette Z06 will use a naturally aspirated version of the engine that will supposedly rev to 8600 rpm and develop in excess of 600 horsepower, a power figure that's credible given the Voodoo's power rating and 8250-rpm redline. (More revs equal more power per liter.) It is rumored that GM engineers had designed the motor to spin to 9000 rpm, but that design elements of the Tremec-built dual-clutch automatic transmission—the same one that will be standard across all versions of the C8—restricted the redline to the lower number.
This engine will help the Z06 return to its roots as a lightweight, naturally aspirated, high-revving, rear-drive, track-focused car. We believe that, as in our illustration above, it will have a wider body than the standard Stingray to cover its wider wheels and tires.
Corvette ZR1
The ZR1 will be the big daddy of Vettes, and its twin-turbocharged version of the flat-plane crank engine can be expected to put out well over 800 horsepower. It will likely not have as high a redline as the Z06. It will be rear-wheel drive and have a movable rear wing, along with a front suspension that can automatically adjust ride height with speed to move the center of pressure and increase downforce for optimum handling balance. It will probably be the quickest C8 around the Nürburgring, but not the fastest in a straight line.
Corvette Hybrid
That Nürburgring honor will go to the hybrid version of the C8, rumored to be called eRay or Zora. It will have a powerful electric motor where the front trunk is in other models (see cutaway, above), which powers the front wheels independently of the rears; the twin-turbo engine will drive the rear tires. A small battery will be housed low in the structure, possibly inside the car's central spine. Total system power is expected to approach 1000 horsepower for brief periods. The resulting all-wheel drive and instantaneous low-end torque will launch the Corvette like a rifle bullet and make it one of the quickest-accelerating cars on the planet. The extra weight from the motor and battery, however, will probably keep it from being the quickest around the 'Ring

Nurburgring, while cool as hell, is such a useless benchmark. It's a 12 mile long track and there entirely to many variables for a perfect lap.
Also Sub 6.50 is.. I know the Porsche GT2 RS and the Aventador have done it. But Porsche has been at that for a while and the Lambo has active aero something that doubt will be on the Vette

It’ll be interesting to see how their performance numbers translate into realworld driving. That’s one thing that makes the R35 a monster is that it can do it on a prepped track or in the street.

Love the sound of a high rpm V8.

GM has confirmed the C8 will have active aero

Not sure what model or models but it will have it.

you realize that's a high 13's to low 14's Skyline in your pic yes?
While an r34 usually is, that's an r33 with a body kit and was a certain actor's personal car. It was a sub 10 second car.

Aventador
The only Italian car worth lusting over.
It was somehow ahead of its time and yet timeless.

It's gotta be in the higher end models i'd have to assume..
Even still, how many cars are running real deal active aero in the price range??
Hell you have to pay 275k+ for a Huracan Performante with that option..

First, in terms of the perfect lap it is indeed more or less impossible but that is true on Barber, VIR or any road course it just gets magnified at the 'Ring. This is one reason manufacturers, car rags and sometimes private groups (see Viper) run many laps looking for their published time. Sector aggregates are also available for many of the runs which can also weed out anomalies.
I also fully agree with James May that a Nordschleife tuned car doesn't make for a great or even sometimes a good street car.
All that said it is still the performance gold standard by which all supercars are judged. There isn't a single car with low 'Ring times that isn't a monster on any road course. That isn't to say a small nimble lower HP car can't beat a bigger heavier higher HP car on a shorter point and squirt track. The Nordschleife does reward horsepower though and more importantly balls of titanium.
In the end, it is just potential we are talking about anyone. The average weekend track warrior even in a GT2 RS is unlikely to break 8 minutes bridge to gantry much less on the full track and a sub 6:50 would be just a dream. Then again the average driver of these cars couldn't match the car rag 1/4 times, but that gap is closing with LC and DCTs.

So that engine isn't LS-based I imagine. Boo. They're designing an entirely new architecture for a low-production car.

Base car has the NA LT2 engine, basically an improved LT1 that was in the C7. The Z06 and above will have a flat plane DOHC V8.

I respect the engineering aspects of the Corvette, as well as the economics/efficiency of the vehicle.
Unfortunately, much like the Mustang GT and Camaro SS, I can't bring myself to drive one. The Corvette is to performance cars what cruises are to vacations. There's nothing inherently bad about it, in fact it seems like it would be fun, but then you see the type of folks that make up the customer base and realize it's not the kind of lifestyle you want to aspire to.

It ain't shite if it can't run 10s.
you would likely need to drop $10k into that R34 to even beat the C8 stock time
go home guy

You're clearly not a car guy.
We have had exotics of every make in the garage, met some great people over the years. I can tell you, I've also met some real douchebags over the years in million dollar automobiles.
The day I care what what some guy I've never met thinks of me because the car I drive, watch I wear, or sunglasses on my head.. is the day I concede I've failed in life.
To each his own.

Are these the type of folks you are referring to? You are right, you wouldn't fit in. Just a small part of what they do.
