Why don't seafood distributors do this? Why do you have to buy the whole sack? I never understood this. Why can't you just buy how much you want 10, 20, ect...like every other fresh seafood.

There are places that do this if you ask nicely.

I've bought 15-20 lbs from Fisherman's Cove in Kenner many times.

Because it makes the price per pound go up, just like everything else does.

So don’t axe.

They don't want to break open sacks. It's live crawfish, they arrive in sacks, and if they open the sack they need to deal with handling live crawfish and moving from one sack to another, smaller sack.

Also, who the hell wants to cook that small of an amount? I have no desire to pull my pot and stuff out the garage, set it up, rinse them down, set up a table, season them, etc etc, for 20 lbs. I'm not doing all that work unless it's at least a sack, and honestly, I really don't like doing it unless it's at least 2 sacks.

If I only want 10 lbs of crawfish I'll let someone else cook them.

Because less than a sack is just a snack.

You do realize they break open sacks all day long as they clean/boil crawfish all day long.

As many posters have said. If you ask nicely, they will sell you less than a sack. Some might tack on a dime per pound.

Breaking open sacks to cook them is different from breaking open sacks simply to repackage them for live sale.

And yes, some places will do it. Especially if they aren't busy.
