Serious question for the OT:

Why do we need vehicle titles?

If States stopped requiring them, what bad things would happen?

Just bought a truck in Texas.
Sign the back of the title.
Sign a Texas bill of sale. Goes with him.
Have him only sign La bill of sale. You sign back in La in front of a La notary in the parish you will register it.

Take bill of sale and title to dmv with DL and proof of insurance. Pay TTL and register it.

What if the car has a lien/loan on it

Then you need to pay the bank and not him.
If a bank has the title due to a loan, and you give him $18k for the car, and be spends the $18k on hookers and blow, the bank still owns the car.

Guy is saying he doesn't have the title.
Says he doesn't want to put in dealer s name to save money

Says that dmv will send it in mail but seems shady

Accidentally found a loop hole to avoid paying sales tax. Bought a car for cash in Louisiana for my son going to college In Alabama. Didn’t pay Louisiana taxes because I told them I was going to register it in my son’s name out of state. I signed the title the dealership gave me as a second seller and my son as a second buyer. I never registered it under my name. Made a gift form letter stating he paid nothing for him to use when he registered it. Being a gift, he just pays the registration fee (less than $100). It worked out that no sales taxes had to be paid. Didn’t plan it that way, but avoided Louisiana taxes because it was never registered. Alabama doesn’t charge taxes on a gift.

Don’t tell anyone.

Yeah bought my car there in 2016. Houston -> BR. Saved me about 3-5K on a used with 6k miles vs. the 30k Miles on the limited stock here in BR. They handle all the paperwork, tax and registration/liscense plate is in your mail a month later.

Rule of thumb, if it seems sketch, just look elsewhere. The car probably has some hidden things too.

100% this

trust that gut

are you in a hurry?

I'd see the car history before I did anything (car may well have a damaged/flood title; especially of you are getting a "great deal" from a registered dealer)

the fact that you are driving to TX during this shitstorm probably means you found a "deal" - right?

from a "shitty little car dealer"; not even an individual

if it seems too good to be true...

it would be easier for criminals to steal cars and sell them without getting caught

Did you buy from individual or a dealership?

I know but I did the carfax for free and the car is beautiful and got a 69/70
If it wasn't a great car and price I wouldn't even be thinking about it

Just want to know from a dealer what they usually do for out of state sales

What if I did pay the taxes? It's on my paperwork. I bought the truck in TX,but definitely paid taxes according to paperwork. I have to go pick up plates at the DMV, should they already know this? Or do I need to bring my paperwork?

We had motor trouble that turned into a struggle
Half-way across Alabam'
And that 'Hound broke down and left us all stranded
In downtown Birmingham

Right away I bought me a through train ticket
Ridin' 'cross Mississippi clean
And I was on the Midnight Flyer out of Birmingham
Smokin' into New Orleans
Somebody help me get out of Louisiana
Just help me get to Houston town
There are people there who care a little 'bout me
And they won't let the poor boy down
