your best bet is to get your stuff back and move on. asap.

speaking from experience here. and quit accepting a check as payment. cash or nothing, especially for only 3k.

Do you even notice $3k in terms of your accounts and portfolio?

I used a large portion of the 3k to buy a pair of dress shoes.... OT style . So in the grand scheme, f**k that money. But I'm still not comfortable letting this guy take advantage of me.

I realize it was dumb to take a check and I "spent the money" but it really was just "permission" to spend my own money since I got rid of something.

Contact your local DA's office, they will handle it from here.

You not only will likely get your money ASAP he will have a nice felony to add to his record.

Ok. Wait. I'm laughing.

You spent almost 3k on shoes.

But you don't give a bill of sale?

Oh...30k millionaires make life so much better!

Cashiers check is fine unless the bank somehow goes under.

I don't see much you can do other than take the item back and resell it. And don't take a check next time. I thought that was a pretty firm rule that everyone knew. If you are doing a private sale of anything, only accept cash or something like Venmo. Never take a check because of shite like this or the check bouncing.

I'm waiting until tomorrow to be sure. Sounds like the hold was too late. He already listed the item for sale on the same site he bought it from. I think he knows he's got nothing now. I would never think to get a bill of sale for a bike (that's what was sold). Bought and sold several when I was doing triathlons. I just keep coming back to the realization that people suck.

You’re not fooling anyone with you’re “bought shoes” lie. We know that means rims. And yes since you’ve already put them on, you’re still going to have to pay the weekly note at Aaron’s.

Unfortunately "stop payment" is a civil matter in Louisiana, i.e. a matter the cops are too lazy / busy prosecuting 0.08 BAC DUIs to prosecute.

This is what I do when someone kites a check to me at my office and it bounces. I send a ten day demand letter and take it straight to the DA.

I always get my money with this method.

Lots of credit criminals out there so keep your head on a swivel.

Explain it to him this way...

And you’ll want to have the curlers in your hair when you do it.

Screen shot this and take it with you to the DA, this is textbook fraud.
