I've been involved with several large (for our area) real estate developemnts and have worked with 3 very prominent national branding firms. They're very good, but expensive. The expense is very common for high profile developments. For a small company, I would just interview some local advertising firms to discuss branding.

Deal with pretty much everyone there. We have been with them for almost 20 years, we are one of their longest standing clients.
