It’s this a feasible option? Millsaps had a crime problem in 90s and a very public rape and put up a big razor wire topped fence or something around the campus which really helped the issue.

They could restrict all access to LSU campus to students and employees, and permits except on Game weekends run 3/4 checkpoints, and then wall or fence off the rest of it making it a closed campus.

Drastic measure but I think eventually will be only choice as it now sitting in the middle of a war zone. They need to start drawing up plans now and leak them to let ghetto rouge know they aren’t screwing around.

They also should arm the rotc and put them on patrol over the campus.

Other than a major hurricane, fire or Dom just destroying GRSI etc, what else can they do?

I'm not endorsing this or saying someone should do this but, there are some areas where arson would improve things.

GRSI wasn’t built to be a ghetto but in the oil boom of 80s when LSU was almost 40k students. Then when oil prices collapsed and LSU decided to be around 25k so much if it went section 8 that the entire area started to go bad. At the same time, the area around the bengal bar and grill collapsed and LSU began to become completely surrounded on its Northern and Southern flanks by lawless gangs etc.

It’s a real problem

I was in Navy ROTC at LSU and we never got to bring our guns home. They kept them pretty accounted for. I guess I need to Google what happened.

Worry about your own state(s)

Your ideas on here are laughable. I'm sure everyone wants to attend a school that actively promotes an idea that it needs to be a fortress in order to keep students on campus safe when the actual on campus crimes are borderline nonexistent.

I always heard the ROTC guns weren’t capable of firing. Is that not accurate?

1. LSU never had 40K students. LSU has more students now than ever before. We dipped for the Pandemic but are back above 32K.

2. The two LSU girls murdered in the last acaDEMIC YEAR WERE both OFF CAMPUS (one was in a complete different part of town) when they got into trouble.

2a. Learn to drink in moderation.

3. Baton Rouge is a great place to live, but you have to know where to avoid at 2am. Just use common sense.

I don’t really think those of you had live around Baton Rouge and in Louisiana realize how bad the national perception is of the crime issues at LSU. The 3 to 4 “missing students” a year was enough for me.

Be it completely founded or not, it’s enough to keep kids from looking at LSU, so it’s a problem. If you don’t believe all the OSS alumni that have been telling you this for last decade then go ahead and hire a consultant for 250k to tell you the same damn thing. (That’s the Louisiana way right.)

One of the university's biggest issue is bureaucratic bloat. Waaaay too many administrators making ridiculous salaries.

That $ would be better used on the decaying physical plant and other areas.

LSU has more apps than ever before or so my neighbor tells me. (She works in the Admissions Office.)

No, no it isn’t. Only people who have never lived somewhere else say this. Crime, traffic, littering, are all well above national averages. Would you like to discuss insurance rates in Louisiana?

Maybe before making that statement you should take a look at these statistics.

Crime on Campus Statistics 2019

While this is data from 2019, it clearly shows that LSU is not some sort of 3rd world country.

Arson? You need what Sherman did to Atlanta to come anywhere close to improving BR at this rate

I have lived multiple years in suburban Houston and 27 years in Suburban Atlanta. I retired back to BR. I know firsthand that BR is a great place to live.
