Man this scam has been around forever.

only exception I've seen to this is with N. Carolina furniture, I know a guy, retired, who is a wealthy man from doing that for years, of course he never paid any taxes, but I don't understand the need for the huckster approach to selling a good product, his son is carrying on the tradition and is doing quite well at it himself

The website is fake..Between this thread and the apple thread, I'm not sure you know how to internet correctly

You serious, Clark? The website is a REAL website for a SCAM company. I was pointing out to a poster that it wasn't stolen property. Read a little better next time. Oh, and thanks for the downvote, too.

And wtf are you talking about with the "Apple thread"? I was mentioning how stupid people are for believing that Apple Wave junk.

I'm in the IT industry and I think I can "internet" just fine, thanks.

EDIT: Alright, cool. Thanks again.

Have your buddy tell him that you'll take the projector now, then when his Nigerian prince buddy wires the cash, he'll get paid then.

I had a guy try to do this to me one time in the parking lot of a bank. He had a stereo system that he was trying to sell and I kept refusing so he kept going lower on the price. He eventually said, "If I gave you this for free you wouldn't take it" I said no.

I was worried about receiving stolen property. He left right after that.

Never buy anything from strangers in a parking lot. A while back they had some guys selling a "$1,000 surround sound system" for $300. They even show you in a legit looking catalog that the unit sells for $1,000. Then give you some story like they were delivering them and the order was too large so they have an extra one. The sound system is some cheap chinese made one that sells on alibaba for $15. I know 2 people who have gotten conned by this scheme. Only buy things from places that will allow you to return them.

I had a friend in High School that sold speakers out of a van. They were all legit, and not stolen. They were just cheap Chinese knock-offs. I want to say these were all Cerwin Vega and Sounddesign, which were good names in the 90's. They would honestly approach people at gas stations and parking lots and have some lie about how they had a cancelled order and the truck can't go back with parts, and they only need "x" amount of dollars.

It isn't legit, because no taxes are being paid and everything is under the table, but it isn't stolen either.

Hell for $200 I had a nice set of floor 12" speakers that lasted me at least a good two or three years.

This EXACT same thing happened to me yesterday while I was pumping gas, it was 2 dudes in a van and they said they had a leftover one from a job. The pitch was the same, its just like then the vans used to go around selling speakers. This must be the new scam.

This this this.

Wow so they had it in Arizona as well.

The speakers in the van thing.
They were actually given written "scripts" to say to potential customers.

Like

If old woman say this
if college student say this..
etc

I particularly like people posting them for sale on Ebay and craigslist at the "MSRP".

I'm guessing that's the scammers too.

I bought some of those years ago when I was building a haunted house for the kid's Halloween. They sounded great and I used them for several years for outdoor type stuff like that. Got a lot of use from them and they were still sounding great when I gave them away.

they worked fine for what they were purchased for, as much as a PA system as for music, do you really think a high end stereo system is necessary for a CD of scary Halloween sounds and playing "the Monster Mash" about a thousand times with kids knocking shite over and parents spilling drinks everywhere?

This is been going on for 30 years, first there was VCRs, then speakers, generators, and for a number of years there were people in a pickup truck that always had three pieces of industrial equipment, like a hydraulic press, and two other things. Always had similar stories, they sent too many, or they ordered the wrong tools, and needed to sell them before the boss found out.
