Same with NOPD. They're right at 1150 officers down from 1500 just 6 years ago.
It's not the same as NOPD. NOPD has had as many as 1000 applicants as recent as a two years ago. The difference is that Mitch Landrieu put a hiring freeze on the police department for about 4 years while attrition gutted the department's numbers.

What is the low applicant count doing to the salary? Seen a jump in the minimum at all? Also, have there been any job requirement change or are they broadening their candidate base by making it easier to qualify?
The problem at a place like BRPD is that the suggestion to raise the low end at a higher percentage than the high end doesn't ever go over well. It's ALOT more financially viable to give a 20% increase to the starting salary that tapers down at the high end than it is to give everybody 20% or even 5%. All the old-timers are going to want let's say an across the board 10% increase even though 10% on $32,000 will do frick all to get more new hires.

JPD had 4 applicants for 3 openings earlier this year for a nice paying position. When I tested in 1996, there were several hundred applicants from around the country for two spots.
They've had to settle for transfers from Anchorage PD.

About a month ago a BRPD officer I know said that they usually have 1-2 officers leave per month. He said that in the first two months after Broome took office, they had around 20 officers leave the force.

Those number aren't really apples to oranges considering were not even to the halfway point of 2017. Extrapolating that out it will likely be around the same as the list two years

They aren't hurting, that's for sure.

Why would anyone want to be a cop for BRPD? They make shite money and have to work a city that hates them because their functionally retarded leadership like Broome and Gravy tell them so.
Go join a sheriff's department or something that doesn't have a racist piece of shite leading the city.

Why hasn't he left yet?

Dallas is down about 700 officers from its peak a few years ago. They get paid less and are bigger targets than just about all of the burbs.

Why would anyone want to join BRPD when the mayor is constantly trying to reem them in the rear?

If y'all would quit firing people every time they rape somebody, maybe y'all wouldn't have so many positions to fill.

Background checks are racist!
Actually BRPD has lowered it's recruit standards in an attempt to increase numbers.
But the really scary number is the number of veteran LOEs taking early retirement or transferring. That's veteran leadership that can not be replaced quickly.
