I have ONE very unpopular opinion for why women become what your brother says they become:
Idolatry. They worship counterfeit gods that can never fulfill them.
This is not limited to women though.
I’m sorry for what your brother is going through. He sounds crushed. I wish she knew the answer.

There have been some great, nuanced posts in this thread about the ultimately rewarding journey that a team-effort a marriage is. With all due respect, the OP's brother doesn't sound like he was ready for that kind of trek into the big wilderness.
His stated desire (beauty) is a transient possession of a woman. They all know this. She may be as shallow as he claims, but she is at least being pragmatic. He seems to be stuck on lamenting losing something he was going to lose anyway.
Bottom line: you can't control another person, you can control whether you grow as a result of a bad experience with them. I really hope he does so.
Can chime in with others that what seems like life's bitterest blows really do turn out to be blessings --if-- you do not become bitter because of them.

The key to a successful marriage is do wild shite (preferably illegal) at least once a quarter to remind your wife that you are not some beta pussy heeding her back and call.
Women are programmed to try and dominate and emasculate their husbands, ironically once they achieve it they look on to greener pastures.

A romanticized false perception of how relationships are and should be. Someone always keeps thinking the grass is greener on the other side of the fence just to realize that it has to be fertilized and mowed and upkept.
The real cowards in life are the people that realize this and just keep jumping into a new yard everytime their current one gets roughed up.

I’d just add not all women are that way, but sadly yes, a lot of them are just about who can provide what for them. I’ve known several who play the unhappily married card to get attention and have their side flings but have no intention of leaving their marriage bc the guy they’re screwing around on is their meal ticket. That’s what it boils down. If they left they’d have to downsize all their material shite and lord knows most women won’t do that if they don’t have to

My cousin's wife just divorced him. He's super down about it but really I don't see the big deal, their one kid is in college and now he's free to buy a motorcycle and live life without having to plan and coordinate with his spouse.

The counterfeit God many women give in to is "if I have 4x kids named Paisley, Lakynn, Braxtynn, and Jaxynn I will be happy because I'm meeting the standards society and my family" have set for me. Then they wake up and they're 38, their husband is busting his arse making a good living to provide the Yukon Denali and private school education but..
Now she's unfulfilled and looking elsewhere...
