So I got a fractured 5th metatarsal from kicking arse, and the Doc said it was lined up, and to wear a boot for a month and come back for follow up X-rays.

It started to feel better after a week, so I didnt wear it to sleep, and continued with my normal schedule including a lot of airport terminal walking, fishing and a little bit of wake boarding.

Skip to the end of the month, and im feeling good because the foot is feeling much better, ( albeit a little sore in the evenings). I get my follow up X-rays and the Doc says its displaced now and i need to go see the special man.

What can I expect? If I have surgery, will they give me a cast, or can I roll with the boot again?

Why ask questions when you obviously don’t follow educated advice?

Post-surgery, whether you get the cast or the boot, you should wake board on that foot every.damn.day.

I did the same thing July 10th. I'm in the middle of haying season so didnt see a doctor.

My recheck xray is this week. my understanding is when its displaced, the chances of a non-union goes way up and its lag screw time (surgery) and 8-13 weeks off it.

A girl at work broker hers nearly 10 years ago and can't run- hers is a non-union

I broke my 5th metatarsal right at the joint. Dr kept me in a boot for 3 1/2 months. He said surgery was an option but I was young enough to heal it. It would have taken 2 surgeries. One to put the plate in and one to remove it. I healed it and filled in the gap and has pretty much completely healed. I'm still walking with a limp, but hopefully that will be gone soon. Foot and ankle are still swollen. Dr said it may be 9 months to be back to normal. You should have stayed in the boot. Good luck, a broken foot sucks big time.

You either continue to be stubborn and not listen to the ortho or you bend the knee.

Its not that I didnt listen. Whenever i wasnt wearing the boot, I was positioning my foot the same as it would be in the boot. SO it was pretty much the exact same as wearing the boot.

Shoulda worn the damn boot. I also broke mine in three other places. I couldn't sleep without the boot the first month. Sheets on it hurt like hell.
