I'm not saying it was a good idea, but it was just always something you grew up around as a kid in the South. Riding an ATV was practically a kid's activity for me as I haven't ridden on one in probably 15+ years.

She did show some responsive movement which is great news.
Wow, it must be really serious. Terrible for them to go through. Hope she makes a full recovery.

There are so many ATV accidents that come in the hospitals. Usually pretty bad.

I had one of these bad boys growing up. It was pimp as a kid, not so cool for an adult.

From what I understand it was a youth model side by side. Similar to the photo below.

Pretty much everyone in Louisiana. My dad had a 250cc Big Red we learned to ride earlier than 8. Couldn't go out of 2nd gear on a 1,000 acre farm. Surprised we didn't blow up the motor.

Everybody is so quick to pass judgement on the parents when you have no details. Now's not the time for that. Accidents happen. I can assure you that this family is devastated and will be traumatized for life by the events one way or another. Keep the little girl in your prayers.

You never know when it's going to be you or your family. I thought this kind of shite on happened to other people, until it happens..

I would say its a very bad idea and you can see the result.

I get people ride ATV's especially in more rural areas but common sense tells you wouldn't let an 8 year old one.......and I say this as someone who has owned motorcycles.

Those things are death traps and kids certainly have no business on them. Should be banned.

Dan Schneider.

I don't know if he bangs them or not but he's got an eye for talent with his jailbait. Bynes, Victoria Justice, Ariana Grande, Liz Gillies, Jamie Lynn. That's a nice roster.

I told her at least 10 times, leave your butterfly at home when you go for a ride on your ATV.

It's up to the parent. Kids start racing pee wee motocross around 4 or 5 with Yamaha PW50s. By 8 they are jumping higher than I would now, but I'm old and have the fear.

Kids at 8 are doing all sorts of shite in motorsports, especially in Europe. The karting scene over there is nuts.

It should be based more on the kid and the skill/responsibility they present more on just an outright helicopter NO on all things like this.

Or just not reported this for any reason?

Why is a private family injury news on tmz?

Why don't we just allow 8 year olds to drive cars?

Its just like hundreds of other things kids play with, all about having adult supervision for kids that young. Nothing wrong with a kid having an ATV, as long as the kid is in the manufacturer's recommended age bracket....and as long as an adult always supervises. Most of those youth ATV's have throttle restricters so parents can limit speed/power based on kid's age and driving ability. I wouldn't hesitate to let my 8 year old ride an ATV if she ever expressed interest, I'd just be watching over her

Dude, growing up in PC Parish in the 80s, errybody had a 3-wheeler. Frigging errybody.
Finally, when I'm 10 or 11 years old, my dad agrees to get me one for x-mas. Mom was furious, but I was so pumped.

Then I wake up to this:

I wasn't even disappoint. I rode that fricking 50 till I looked retarded on it, even after I got an XR 100 at 14.
But by nightfall THAT x-mas day, 3 of my friends were in the hospital from flipping 3-wheelers, and one of them never came back to school (brain damage).

I actually pulled one off of a good friend on the levee in Morganza and rode him home unconscious across my lap on that damn 50 in the 7th grade. He had his jaw wired shut for a long time and never spoke the same way. We remained tight when he moved away the next year, then he moved back to BR in 11th grade and we were in a band together. Best man in his wedding. I talked to him last week, matter of fact, and I still mocked the way he talks.

I always whined to my parents to get me one. Every kid in the neighborhood had 185+ cc 3 wheelers. My dad wouldnt budge. Looking back I think they were the only sane parents.
