Holy frick! $1,227/month? That’s insane.

$10k cash for a used car? Not in today’s market unless you’re buying a piece of shite that needs $60k of work.

I've been driving a $1200 chevy uplander for the past two years. It had 138k and just rolled over 170k. The only part its needed was 140 bucks online. Cheap can still be done.

Living rural I put far too many miles on them to buy new. I am past the age of giving a damn what other people think about what I drive.

That's not a reason to buy a used vehicle. I've probably bought my last brand new cart that I'll ever purchase in 2009. So, I am very much pro "used car buyer". But, to say I drive too many miles, thus I need to get one with already a bunch of miles on it, doesn't really make sense.

These are two mutually exclusive things.

Being older is a plausible reason for having more reliable transportation.

Also more miles driven per year logically would lead one to having a more reliable (i.e. “newer”) vehicle.

Putting on airs be damned.

It makes sense to me, but mileage is just one small reason. A new one wont be worth anything by the time it's paid off if it's got a ton of miles on it. I'll happily let someone else take the 90% of value loss.

It is very nice to not have payments, pay full coverage and basically not give a damn if my wife backs into a tree.

As long as a vehicle is clean inside, drives good and the ac works I am content with it.

I've been that way my whole life. I was dating in my early 20's driving a 54 Plymouth with a flathead 6, with 3 on the tree, AM radio only, no A/C and never had an issue getting dates.

I figure if a woman is going to judge me by the vehicle I'm driving, then she's not the type woman I want in the first place.

That's very true. I was into flashy money pits as a young man. I just keep my eyes out for deals now. I love getting a decent used vehicle for cheap.

I have a Delphi passcode ring with a key. I only have it so I can jump on a good deal when someone lists a decent gm vehicle with a no start condition for next to nothing.

Bought my 2011 truck for $9500 out the door (tax, tag, title).

Just had it repainted for $4500 and had to replace one CV joint. Runs great and now looks brand new.

Paid cash. Will never buy a new vehicle. Let some other sucker take the financial hit.
