Idk, though. If you go cheap on her frivolous items, it’s only fair to go cheap on yours (boat/car/watches/whatever.)

When I bought an engagement ring I debated on whether to go lab or not. There is the thought of wanting to give a REAL genuine diamond to my girlfriend but not wanting to pay the price for it. I ended up getting her a 2ct lab one for about $5,500. This same exact ring but with a genuine diamond would have costed me over $13,000. She is constantly getting compliments on the ring when we go out to eat or just randomly in public. I think she would be getting the same amount of compliments with the $13,000 diamond vs the lab one I got her.

The only thing I could tell was that I went and brought it to a pawn shop before I gave it to her because I wanted to get her another one. They offered me $500 after paying $5500 just 2 months prior. I know thats how pawn shops work and operate but I still was pretty shocked at the low ball offer. His reasoning was that it was a "lab" and not "genuine."

To me, it’s about preference, too. If you go real, she should understand that it will be smaller than a similarly priced lab one.

Maybe not, but if you are married, you can bet your arse she will have something to say about what you spend.

There is no resale market for man made diamonds. The jeweler where you bought it may give you credit for the amount you spent on it there but you will not get that amount anywhere else.

if she can find a boat that runs the exact same and lasts just as long for ~80% cheaper than I will hear her out.

Resale shouldn't matter, and if it does you're in trouble

If you're purchasing anything diamond just treat that money as gone no matter what you buy

Thoughts?

Diamonds are kinda' stupid. I mean, they're pretty I guess but there are tons of other gems which I personally think look cooler, but they're just not what you're supposed to use as an engagement ring.

I mean...diamonds are just carbon + pressure. Gold, which we take for granted, was created in a supernova and it all comes from space and predates the creation of the Earth. Our priorities are whacked.

So yeah, no doubt...I'd have bought a manmade one now and she'd have been cool with that.

No one has ever adequately explained to me the logic of tying up tens of thousands in capital to a useless fricking ring before you get married.

If women want a dowry, then take 10-20 grand and slap it into the equity on a house. There is zero fricking purpose to an expensive engagement ring other than the vain need to show off

Man made diamonds are real diamonds.

The idea of buying diamonds just to have diamonds is so "keeping up with the Jones" bs... Diamonds should be used in tools, not jewelry. I think jewelry is a waste of money, especially diamonds.

A agree, but we have man brains... not woman brains. Women aren't going to think that way.
