I will never understand why police departments do not use tranquilizer guns. If they can bring down a Rhino or an Elephant it stands to reason it can take down an enraged human that is unarmed or is trying to die by "Suicide by cop". It is at least worthy of carrying in all police cars, not to mention the dogs that will be saved.

I have been present when cops have carried out an OPC many ties. And many times the patients run, even sometimes get violent and aggressive. Not once have I seen a cop remotely reach for or consider his weapon or even a taser. Coroner sent the wrong morons

I'm almost positive I heard KATC that police had been called to the house over 100 times throughout the years so I'd assume they're familiar with him. Sad deal.

Someone that mentally unstable had 3 kids??

I don't know anything about tranquilizer guns, but I imagine they don't work like in the movies. I don't think they instantly drop people. I imagine it might take a little while for the drugs to take effect. I don't know for sure though.
Eta: also there might be dosage issues. Different tolerances and weights. Overdose a small person, or not stop a large one.

Great. Another "comply or die" fan
Tell that to the guy in the GA gas station retrieving his license as the officer requested.
I was being sarcastic. Unimaginably horrible incident.

It's just such a common reaction to any police incident on here, i figured the sarcasm would be detectable. But..Time and a place. Sorry..

That's what they said.
The police were familiar with him which leads me to believe he did something extreme in this case to have a gun pulled on him.
TANGERINE didn't post about the other 100 times the cops handled him successfully.

The minute that sick dude didn't drop to a knee and lick the cops boot he was as good as gone. Nuts or not you need to respect the badge. Fear it. Obey...or you'll get what's coming to ya.

Am I missing something? It sounded like the mom called the cops b/c he had a mental breakdown and it sounded like they were going to take him to the hospital.
So how can a grown man be forced to the hospital based off their mother's wishes? It seems like the guy probably refused and the cops got mad when he didn't comply. So was the guy getting arrested and if not then he should of been able to get away from the cops without being tasered or killed.
Also anyone defending these cops for this murder just b/c a person doesn't do what a cop says, even if they are completely unarmed and are of no threat, should be castrated or put down.
How many more examples do you pussy corrupt cop defenders need of cops killing/beating innocent citizens to realize that the cops have shite training and live above the law?

Sad situation, but
He wasn't unarmed if he had a loose cuff in his hand. A man can be gutted or his throat ripped open with an open cuff like that. It's basically a dull metal hook at that point.

It's an OPC, basically a warrant for him to be taken into protective custody.

Glad to see everyone here has figured out exactly what happened.

This kind of thing happens fairly often. Family calls cops to take Junior to the nuthouse yet again to get his meds dialed in. The wrong cop shows up.
When Junior does not obey commands (because he's frickng crazy, which everyone knows), the cop ratchets it up to the point where he shoots an unarmed but apeshit crazy guy.
Most cops are able to deal with these situations. They even back off and let Junior chill if needed. But a few go all Cartman and end up shooting a retard. So brave.

Can they not make fricking alternative weapons in this day of time that are so not so fatal.
Gah, I hate this shite.
They take the easiest way out and don't even bother assessing situations as unique.
and I want to clarify.. my feelings are specific to this particular incident or however it went down.. I just mean in general.. one on one situations with a possible truly mentally disabled person. I understand these situations are rare though..
Like, in this case, but what if a man is deaf AND mentally ill.. or something.. I just don't know. I just wish there were other methods besides fatally shooting people that are by themselves.
I am really upset about the cop that shot and killed the guy climbing out of his flipped vehicle.. immediately.. then the cop initially said on tape he didn't shoot him.. WTF.. he ended up losing his life

So what do you think the officers should have done differently in the situation listed in the op?
Posted on 12/24/15 at 1:47 am to LSUTANGERINE
One less burden to society.
