and I want to clarify.. my feelings are specific to this particular incident or however it went down.. I just mean in general.. one on one situations with a possible truly mentally disabled person. I understand these situations are rare though..
How many dogs and humans have to be killed for no reason by these pigs before they get held accountable? Losing a job for murder isn't being held accountable.

As much as I hate to, I agree. I've taken these people into custody many times and it can turn into one hell of a fight. Unless the person was going for a weapon or beating an officer to the point of serious bodily harm or death is imminent then deadly force is not an option.

He obviously deserved it. I'm sure the cop weighed all his options and only turned to deadly force as a last resort.

There's probably a lot they could have done differently. I'm willing to bet they escalated the situation rather quickly when he was noncompliant. Either way, they could have backed off and let him chill out. They could have called for back up when he became physically resistant while letting him chill. If he was trying to escape back into his home they could have let him and waited for back up. If he was trying to escape the other way, they could have called her back up and simply followed him. They could have let his mother help try to intervene. Etc. etc.

It also sounds like this had become a habit. He would go off his meds and they would gget the coroner to intervene and the cops would show up and haul him off to the loony bin. Rinse repeat. I don't know why people think this is ok. The cops are NOT your friend. Bad things are liable to happen when you allow them into your life.

When my wife was in vet school in New York she offered to open the gym where she worked and give free grappling seminars and even private lessons for police. Nobody ever took her up on the offer. Very sad.

If all of this is true that officer will never see the light of day again and a bunch of people will be fired including the chief. I know a lady who has some mental issues and has been been taken in by family request several times. The standard procedure for this is for the police, fire dept and Acadian ambulance to show up in mass numbers. They surround the house and block every possible exit. They do this for the safety of the ones executing the order and for the patient. The patient is not likely to resist if they are faced with overwhelming force and numbers.
