The Bastrop Fire Department, Police Department and ambulance services are currently at the water tower on Ogden Avenue coordinating a rescue effort after responding to a call that a man was stuck inside the tower. The call arrived shortly before 8 p.m.
According to Fire Department Chief Eric Montgomery, the man inside the tower is an employee of a company that contracted with Peoples' Water Company to clean the interior of the structure. While inside the tower, the worker became weak and found that he did not have the strength to climb the ladder in the interior to the top of the tank, which was empty of water for the cleaning process.
Personnel from the Bastrop Fire Department immediately climbed to the top of the tank upon responding to keep an eye on the man inside and help him stay alert as rescue efforts moved forward. Montgomery said the BFD contacted other municipalities and rescue units with additional needed equipment to facilitate the recovery of the man from the tank.
Chief Terry Williams and personnel from the Monroe Fire Department arrived to assist in the effort, and at last report, MFD and BFD rescue personnel were in the tower with the worker as equipment was raised for the rescue effort and extraction, including ropes and back boards.
As this story develops, we will share updated information.
Hope they get this guy out. Bad shite can happen inside enclosed vessels.

Like suffocation. Happened to the husband of one of my cousins. Went in to inspect a tank, and lights out.

One of my dad's grade school friends died in a tank. In Germany.

Rape.
Plus asphyxiation due to lack of oxygen or the presence of hazardous gasses, explosions from the buildup of combustibles, entrapment or engulfment due to the inability to flee, few others.
Mostly rape though.

Quick prayer for the man, his family and first responders working this.

Edited. Had second thoughts about making light of the situation.

He was too weak to climb the ladder and get out? That seems rather weird. Seems more like a panic attack. I can't see a tank that large causing problems. Seems too big.

I participated in getting an injured guy out of the inside of a water tower in the late 90s. Mighty tricky and delicate operation.

You can drown too. A guy drowned in a water tank in Laplace the other day.

wouldn't safety protocol dictate two men on this job?

Father,
We humbly beseech thee this morning for the safety and swift rescue of one of Your children.
Amen.
