DOT inspector general is examining potential failures in the agency’s safety-review process

The inquiry focuses on a safety system that has been implicated in the Oct. 29 Lion Air crash that killed 189 people, according to a government official briefed on its status. Aviation authorities are looking into whether the anti-stall system may have played a role in last week’s Ethiopian Airlines crash, which killed all 157 people on board.

This will be a stain on his presidency.

Regulators and oversight agencies populated by people from the same industries is what creates institutional corruption. That’s why many people have legitimate objections to many of this administration’s agency heads.
Of course we don’t know if there was this kind of corruption in this approval. Let’s hope the investigation is thorough.

I did not connect the approval of this jet to the present administration. Don’t fake your fake propaganda through me.
But there is a clear pattern in this administration of populating oversight agencies with insiders from the regulated industries.

President Barack Obama hired members of the Boeing board to serve as his chief of staff and commerce secretary. Against Republican opposition, he fiercely defended the federal Export-Import Bank, which has subsidized so many airline sales to foreign airline carriers by offering loan guarantees that conservative critics have derided it as “Boeing’s Bank.”
quote:
“I have to say that, given the number of planes that I’ve been selling around the world, I expect a gold watch upon my retirement,” Obama said at a Boeing plant in 2012.

It isn’t. It has been a major problem for a very long time.
