So with that statement you think it is totally ok for a parent to smoke in a car with the windows all rolled up with their child (that has asthma)...since it's completely harmless??

What a stupid hypothetical that is totally irrelevant to the spirit of this discussion.

No one smokes with their windows closed while driving. It would fog up the windows in like half a minute.

I've never been a smoker (relatives have died from lung cancer), but I've spent the last 17 years or so becoming a professional drinker (relatives haven't died from liver cancer).

Aside from a few places in BR that bartenders can easily choose not to work at, I don't notice a smoke problem large enough to bother legislating, even as a clean air advocate.

No need to get so angry, I was responding to the guy who said second hand smoke is harmless.

Just merely pointing out that it actually can be harmful.

I'm so thankful I live someplace where smoking is banned. Now I can actually enjoy when I go out and not have my clothes stink when I come home.

I don't care if people smoke outside in public. Here every bar has covered smoking patios to accommodate smokers. Hell, sometimes the patio is nicer than the inside of the bar.

Your sensibilities being offended is not harmful. Your mindset that the world needs to be tailored to your tastes is harmful.

Your perfume is too musky and the cat hair on your blouse is making my allergies flare up; I think second hand cat hair and perfume should be banned from public venues by law.

I don't need to go home and put my shirt through two wash cycles to get your perfume or someone else's cat hair out of my clothes

Whenever the government needs money, smokers are the first ones that get taxed to bail it out. Ought to be able to smoke wherever they want. Get a job somewhere else if you don't like smoke.

This is debatable but isn't central to the issue.

People are so silly. People that smoke two packs a day from 14 years old go down to smoking when they are old if it takes them down at all.

Anyone that thinks getting a whiff of tobacco from three blocks away will give them cancer is a complete idiot and a weak, silly human being.

THAT shite STINKS!!! Bottom line. It is obnoxious. One smoker can stink an entire room up. The smoking in bars way of thinking is in its death throes. Just like here in Houston. Total non issue now. Smokers have a patio. The bar doesn't smell like arse.

Good. Private business owners should decide what goes on inside their establishments

This. it opens a nice niche for someone that wants to open a nonsmoking bar

And then nobody hangs out inside, and the bar makes less money. I have spoken with bartenders, managers, and owners about that.

People don't go to the bar just to get one beer or one drink. They go to get shots for everyone in their party when everyone is standing next to them, and the owners miss out on monies coming in from video poker ($$$) and billiards. Those don't happen when people are outside.

What would you say if it was raining or 10 degrees outside?
