It boggles my mind that people constantly harp on TX for high property taxes but continually forget there is no state income tax. Most consider it a wash.

Those high property taxes in TX go to fund amazing schools. People in TX send their kids to amazing public schools for free. People in Louisiana are forced to spend boat loads on private schools.

Taxes in Louisiana are already too high. Louisiana is ranked #28 in total tax burden, where TX is ranked #34.

Then you factor in house insurance and car insurance is way cheaper in TX, plus electricity is cheaper.

You cannot continually tax LA residents where they are forced to send their kids to private schools, have substandard roads, etc..

Not only are we burdened more by our taxes but we get jackshite out of it. Why give these idiots more money?

where my April electric bill for a 2 story 2,450 sq ft home was $34. In Baton Rouge it would be around $100 with Entergy

It would be way more than $100 unless you keep your house on 82 degrees

The kinds of dollars it will take for this thing are huge -- well beyond anything a 3 or 5 parish area could do on its own. It's going to take a statewide gas tax. The legislature had a chance to do this last year but the anti-tax cabal in the legislature killed it. So our roads and bridges continue to age and decay, and traffic remains snarled.

This is why we can't have nice things.

A new toll road with a toll bridge that allows you to divert off 1-10 in West Baton Rouge or even Iberville and bypass Baton Rouge entirely that connects to 1-10 somewhere south of Baton Rouge AND continues until it connects further east to 1-12 somewhere in Livingston Parish?

Would enthusiastically pay to use.

So would lots of others. Even making the toll only a dollar would bring in enough money to keep it well maintained.

I'm more anti tax than most but a gas tax dedicated to roads makes sense. We don't drive enough for it to move the needle much for us anyway

Louisiana is flush with cash. Name 10 states with more natural resources ? With our plants, oil and gas, seafood industry and tourism (over 10 million visitors to NOLA alone per year ). The politicians are wasting and stealing the cash. It was revealed ( and quickly silenced) that many state departments hold surplus is secret bank accounts and still ask for more in every budget. Every single thing is taxed. Fees are outrageous. We have the money, but the politicians don't want you to know. State employees and parish employees have lucrative and early retirements. Louisiana government is TWICE the size it needs to be. And that's the TRUTH, RUTH !!!!!!!!!!

I can't even.

Please cite with specificity where these secret bank accounts are located, how much money is in them, and who holds the combination to the lockbox.

A lot of people love to scream about government waste and corruption and shite, and they love to repeatedly spout those talking points. And indeed there are isolated examples of waste and corruption. But most of the screamers don't bother to educate themselves on what is actually in the budget.

Go ahead, smart guy. Take a look at the numbers and find the money to build the bridge, and get back to us.

I do think that we have too many state employees. Several years ago I read somewhere that we have as many as Pennsylvania which has almost 3 times our population.

They essentially took away the third lane for this.

I also don't like that they took away the HOV on 635 from 75 to Mesquite for paid managed lane... Even though they say 2 or more in a vehicle are if you register 15 minutes before drive on it. Very sneaky.....

My guess is that it will never pass the voters of the 5 parish region unless it's funded exclusively by tolls.
Possibly a troll toll?

PS: No new bridge anytime soon because Louisiana is Louisiana.

Set up a board to tax people with no real plan on when the bridge will start or be completed. This sound like a great LSU SJW idea!

It is not like some of this area is paying property tax on another project that is a pipe dream!!!!

Is it not like these people are paying for a Comite River Diversion Canal Property tax. A property tax, people have been paying since the 1990’s or around 26 years ago. By the way how is that project going? When will it really even be 1/2 way finished. By the rate we are going 50 yrs or even 100 yrs?

Watch this bridge board will be the same quagmire as the Comite River Diversion Canal!

Watch a few politicians make money off this while nothing is done!
