I get their Ad in the mail often. What's so bad about ADT?

Custom Security has been a good and reasonable monitoring service for me.

Try Vivant. Lots of people down here are switching...I just upgraded my Safeguard last year, now Acadian, but Vivant said they can use the existing equipment and wiring.
Still in a limbo on whether to switch. It's a little more per month, but they will have a few better upgrades to my existing system if I switch (like glass break sensors).

not ADT
I have ADT and although their service is not bad, I hate being locked in for three years. As soon as my contract is up, I will find another company that doesn't strap me in. One other thing, they keep your credit card on file and they actually charged my card twice a couple of months ago but they did refund me the money.

I'd rather shoot myself in the foot than switch to Vivint. SOBs have knocked on my door 3 times in the last month.
ADT or Custom

I shopped around over the last month or so, and settled on ADT. I got a basic system, the only upgrade made are the shock sensors on my windows and being able to arm and disarm from my cell phone. I pay $52 per month for their service which was slightly more reasonable than most other companies. The one thing you have to keep in mind is that ADT has more call centers than any other alarm company. Also they are the only company I found without a break in clause in their contract, meaning that if somebody does break in and items were stolen before police arrive then they will pay $500 toward your insurance deductible. No other company I found would do that.

That's what I've been hearing. Like I said above, the guy pointed out some interesting things like the glass break sensors. My current system has the normal sensor for actually sliding the glass of window up or opening doors. If a thief breaks the window, my shite won't help. If I had the sensors that detect breaking glass too, then it would go off.
Also, they could hook up my shed/garage for a lot less than Acadian.
