There was probably a place similar to spillway sportsman. The place sold gas, beer, cold drinks, live bait, and had nice amount of artificial lures. This place was packed as people left work and went down Airline Hwy to go to Old River, False River, Miss bar pits, and spillway.

This was back in the day when Fred Parnell sold Louisiana Travelers off Airline and Tom Drive along with Stienberg’s downtown being the nicest sporting goods store in the area.

Then people went to the ice house to get blocks of ice to put in their coolers for weekend trips.

I remember metro bowl it was a hopping place. A lot of plants had bowling teams and after work they bowled there. Then the area got bad behind it and people use to get their cars ripped off. Most teams moved to the bowling alley around Airline and Florida.
