It’s just strange that some seem to think the drivers can work other normal jobs during the week. If they drive for 2-3 hours in the morning it’s not like they can go do a normal job from like 9:00 until 1:30 or so and then go drive another 2-3 hours in the afternoon.
Your friends might be exceptions because I doubt many EBR bus drivers own businesses where they can come and go

Some of them will work the lunch rush at restaurants or fast food places. It fits perfectly with the bus route job.

Most bus drivers are contracted to work for a set number of hours. I think it’s 6 in EBR. Usually they run their routes in about 3-4 hrs. When they get held to their contract they want to go on strike. Bus drivers are the only people who work part time hours but get full time benefits.

Here the huge issue.
Instead of neighborhood schools.
EBRPSS, has turned into a logistics company hauling kids or in some case mandatory day care kids around.
Look at North Sherwood’s stop.
It a huge yard that drops the kids off and shuffles them to other buses. It’s like a freight hub.
They need to go back to neighborhood schools.
Screw ups go to reform school.
Just keep 2 magnet schools.

After august everyone will forget there isn’t AC on the bus until this time next year.
You think it's cool in Baton Rouge in September? Your takes are not improving with time.

They are also responsible with transporting school-aged kids safely to and from school. That seems like a pretty hefty and important responsibility. I would certainly want the person with that responsibility to be compensated and comfortable.
But that’s just me. A parent.

Honestly, he isn't wrong. I know 2 bus drivers growing up, both did it as a second job. One was a nurse who mostly worked the evening shift. I think the other lady worked at the Hallmark store most of the day.

The free market will dictate as it should. Itll result in bus drivers getting a raise

It is my understanding that his proposed plan is to have high schools in EBR to run from 7 to 2:30, middle schools from 8 to 3:30 and elementary schools to run from 9 to 4:30.
I don’t know why Louisiana starts high schoolers so early. Our schools have staggered start times with elementary kids going early, then middle and high school starting at 9 am.

I always heard it was to help kids who worked after school but who knows if that is true.
I think studies have shown a later start time is beneficial for high schoolers. I’m shocked Texas does it and La hasn’t copied it yet. That used to be their philosophy of education lol.

Like this a lot.
This would localize traffic, resolve travel times and logistics and promote positive behaviors of kids trying to learn from those not trying.
