Because nobody wants to drive 20+ unruly kids around in a 120° hotbox for 3-4 hours 5 days a week for $19k a year.

bigpetedatiga thinks that this bus driver should be consulted during the planning process to solve this issue.

see how it feels to be on a hot bus

I’m with her on this one. It’s gotta be hot as a motherfricker on those busses.

1 month of the year (and really only the afternoon routes)

Equates to ~540-720 hours per year (180 day school year)

$26.38-$35.19 per hour (and I thought $19k was starting pay so some make more)

I guarantee there are plenty of people that would take that. Starting with PE coaches, Janitors, teachers, cafeteria workers, etc. let them drive the buses for an extra $20k.

Well, maybe if narcisse hadn't spent the summer looking for another job while neglecting this one, EBR wouldn't be in this mess. Can you be specific about what I said that upsets you.

Yet somehow people have managed to do it for generations.

she isnt wrong in her summation that its hot in a schoolbus during a louisiana heat wave. We can all agree on that point.
Now lets move on to whether we should plan the EBR school bussing logistics based on her input. The answer may be a resounding Yes.
In that case , lets run buses only in non daylight hours to mitigate the effects of the sun.
Or, we could all be reasonable adults and ignore her input and come up with legitimate proposed solutions

I mean, if it was that simple there wouldn't be a shortage of over 100 bus drivers.

We can take emotions out of this. If it was a desirable job, there would be an overflow of applicants. Instead, the opposite is true. Now, I am not a bus driver, but I am going to go ahead and say that a group of already pissed off people, isn't going to like getting triple duty, and messing up the secondary or in some cases primary occupations.

So when they accepted the job did they say they would do it under only different conditions?

It is my understanding that his proposed plan is to have high schools in EBR to run from 7 to 2:30, middle schools from 8 to 3:30 and elementary schools to run from 9 to 4:30

That’s how it is in St. Tammany. Seems better than having a deluge of traffic everywhere at the same times.

Looks good in theory but let’s look closer:
-Cafeteria workers have to be there much earlier to prepare breakfast.
-Coaches have to coach after school
-Teachers have to be on morning and afternoon bus and campus duty
-Custodians have to open school buildings, classrooms when teachers are absent, etc.

This is why there is a driver shortage... FedEx starts at $38k.

Then fix those problems. Go to the schools and recruit these people.

Or they could just sit on their arse and say nope nothing we can do. The janitors have to go too early, all 8 cafeteria workers need to be there before and after school, we need all 50 teachers for after and before school duty, etc.

No idea what your job is, BUT I would imagine your job description you agreed upon during the hiring process is NOT what you actually do on a daily basis.
If my assumption is incorrect Id be surprised, but please correct me and educate us all with the details of how your position only includes the work duties you knew about during the hiring process

Everything you’re saying would be specific to the specific school. So just like the students, some schools are earlier start and finish and others are later start/finish.
