I bought a car in Memphis 205 days ago. I still do not have the license plate. Supposedly the title was incorrect from when the dealership took the car in on trade. Louisiana DMV caught the mistake and mailed the title back to Memphis dealership. There seems to be some car sales process knowledge on here so I want to see if there are any legal or financial remedies I can pursue.
TLDR: Bought car out of state 205 days ago. Still do not have license plates. Do I have any legal ramifications for this?
Also I did not spend tree fiddy on an f250 with truck nuts so I could drive through the quad.

Damn, I bought a 1991 metallic blue GEO Prizm in 1997. This shite could have happened to me. Keep me posted on what happens.

I’d sue the city of Memphis for emotional distress

Was it a big reputable car dealer or a used car shop? I imagine dealing with car salesman and the government in conjuction is going to be about as big of a cluster as imaginable, but as long as it wasn't a Tom's auto off MLK I would assume it'll get handled at some point.

Had a Metro. Best car ever.

Did you run a car fax? Check out the dealer's reputation. I would either demand your money back or charge the dealer with fraud. Do you have an attorney? Many here would not know the laws of Tennessee.

The state of Louisiana is real lenient on late registered vehicles. Not to worry, the state is very understanding. No onerous penalties coming your way.

I would demand my license plate in person at the dealership and I would add to it that if you receive any citations because you don't have license plate that they foot the bill.
Is it a VIN issue

Was it Wolfchase Toyota by any chance? I just bought a 4Runner from them in December and didn't get my license plate until March

The main reason license plates are late from dealers is they are out of trust. That means they finance their vehicle with a local bank or captive finance (Ford Credit for a Ford dealer or Toyota Financial for a Toyota). When they sell a car they are supposed to pay of that loan but if they are short of cash it may take a while, sometimes a long while. This is technically bank fraud and can be a federal offense.

I used to be the Controller at a truck dealership, I figured it was similar

From what I am told the vehicle was titled incorrectly on the year. I bought a 2016 but it was titled as a 2017.
