So your issue is with the state legislators who wrote the law not the sheriff

I bet you've never heard of the police having discretion have you? The state legislators wrote a fricked up law and the sheriff is fricked up for giving that dumb shite law actual force behind it when they could've just simply ignored the stupid extremes the law takes with situations like this.

Something really needs to be done about power hungry cops on a power trip or just flat out being retarded.

I agree with you there. I just don't get the hate on the sheriff for doing his job. If the DA wants to drop the charges that is within his/her rights.

I don't want Law Enforcement to have discretion on what they do and do not enforce.

Just like I didn't want a President to pick and chose what laws to enforce.

This wasn't the cops on a power trip, my understanding this was done on the request of the parents of girl.

The Sheriff could have chosen to not put draconian charges against a young man for something pretty stupid, he made a mistake. Let's label him a child pornographer, that's just stupid.

Actually, the police don't -- or, at least shouldn't.

That's the D.A.'s call.

So you're fine with how the DOJ uses its discretion on which laws to enforce and which not to?

I'll ask the same question again. Do you want law enforcement to pick and choose what laws they want to enforce?

For situations like this, yeah pretty much I want the sheriff to say the law is stupid and not do anything.

They should've refused and told the parents that the law they would charge the teenager under was not meant for harmless situations like two teenagers sexting.

They'll call him a pedophile. Have him attend classes. He will spend next 10 to 15 years on probation along with having his face plastered on somes ones refrigerator. For me the issue with the Sheriffs department going after this kid is that the cops know this is a fricked up law yet they remain silent on it.

You have me confused with politards that literally believe every law enforcement officer from Officer and Deputy Joe Blow all the way to the Attorney General and President of the United States of America is supposed to literally enforce every law in the book without any discretion whatsoever.

No, I've always said that LEOs from local cops to the President and AG have broad discretion on what laws to ignore and enforce and if voters don't like what they're enforcing, they have to make that known at the ballot box.

This case is an absolute joke and neither teen should be prosecuted.

They should get a talking to from their parents. That's about it.

I don't know much about local police. Never really been impressed. Do know federal police and I've been impressed and unimpressed. But I will say, they will selectively enforce. Doing something wrong, they usually have an option of how it will play out in charging you or letting you off or using you to right your wrongs.

Also, I believe a general principle on the founding fathers was something along the lines of "if a law is broken but does no harm, there is no need to enforce."

There's a difference between prosecutorial discretion and political corruption.

In the case of Odumbf*ck's corrupt DOJ, it's more often political corruption.

This isn't about the kids...right now. This is about some stupid arse parents who are trying to control every aspect of their childrens lives. Well , now they've probably ruined two young children's lives and probably caused their children to hate them in the process. I didn't read the link but I'd guess to say that these are probably young parents as well who , most likely , did the same kinda shite in high school. Dumb! Just dumb!

That is some backward arse dumb shite, right there. It's hard to believe anyone would need to have a trial lawyer for this. They should have to pay the kid restitution for smearing his name in such a way. Shameful.
