There is no equivalent to a Vice President in the UK. So what would happen if he dies? Can't hold elections in the middle of all this, can you? Does the person Johnson selected to take over while he is in hospital become some kind of interim Prime Minister?

Prime ministers in the UK are not chosen by the people. They are chosen members of parliament.

Unless you live in the PM's constituency, you will never actually vote for him or her.

When a voter in the UK goes to the polls in a national election, what is on his ballot are the candidates running to represent the district the voter lives in.

For example, in the last election, the only people who actually cast a vote for Jeremy Corbyn or Boris Johnson were the voters who lived in the districts those 2 chaps represented.

The monarchy is re-inserted into actual power. Trump and Liza 2 gonna take out these Asians like FDR/Truman and Churchill before them.

Right, sorry, used wrong term. MPs vote on Prime Minister. But with 12+ MPs self quarantining, can they vote? Does UK allow remote voting?

The Prime Minister is the leader of the party that controls Parliament.

The Conservative Party will vote for a new leader and that person will be Prime Minister.

Just a thought experiment. The line of succession is the US is very clear. And the UK seems less so.

because they have an entirely different system. they dont need as clearly defined line of succession protocols for someone like the PM because the leading party in parliament will just appoint a new one in the event that johnson passes

Can they hold a vote? Do they need to be there in person? Can the Party just call up all their members?

It is a curious situation that is novel. (Pun intended.)

I get what you are saying. They don't need a back up because they can just pop someone else into his spot. Which would usually be pretty straightforward. But how about right now?

And doesn't the whole thing seem a bit hinky? People elect MPs, and then MPs elect PM. Now PM has appointed someone to fill in for him. How many degrees of separation is that from democratically elected? And they say the Electoral college is undemocratic.

Thanks for posting video. However that is an old video that doesn't address what is happening right now.

i assume the party has a contingency plan of some cabinet member taking over in the event that the PM becomes incapacitated. they would probably immediately appoint said person as "acting PM" or whatever, and then they would be confirmed by the queen ASAP

thats just my best guess given how everything there is set up
