My first reaction is that it lost the tail or at least the vertical stabilizer. Either that or pilot error.

This photo compares the flight path of the crashed China Eastern flight and flight on the same route a few days ago. It appears that the profile was to start the descent into the destination at about 0620Z. Obviously something went catastrophically wrong at the beginning of the descent.

The top image is the crashed flight. The second a normal descent path.

Here’s a link to the PPRUNE (message board for pilots and aviation nerds) discussion for anyone interested.

Saw one post comparing this flight with another flight and there's talk that the pilots may have started setting the plane up for descent/landing.

Kind of seems like something broke and not a suicide then right?

So this flight was about to descend and instead dropped out of the air? Yikes.

That’s a good piece of info. Wow; I wonder what went wrong.

The video reminds me of the plane that crashed into Trinity bay back in 2019. That one was pilot error by the FO.

Flew back from Baltimore a couple of weeks ago in bad weather on a 737 Max. It flew OK.

Face culture being what it is, China is going to initally blame Boeing, even if it was pilot error.

I highly doubt we get a transparent investigation on this flight.

That dude got disoriented in the clouds at a fairly low altitude, like 3000 feet, and just slammed it into the ground. By the time they broke out of the clouds there was zero time to recover from the error. This descent started at 29K ft.

Something less than ideal, like the fricking tail falling off, would be my guess.

This is me also. The wife(no pics) and I are flying to Vegas the first week of May and I'm not going to lie, I'm more than a little nervous about it. Like you say, the chances of crashing are low but if it does it ain't likely you're going to survive it

We are currently in the safest period of air travel in the United States.

When a plane crashes it isn’t just one thing that causes the incident. It is a chain event.

It went into a dive from 29-30,000 feet.

Which is why cruising bothers me more than take off or landing.

Since the aircraft was manufactured in the United States there will be US investigators involved.

There’s more than 1 pilot in board. I don’t understand how that could happen.

Which important people, with incriminating dirt on the commies, were on board?
