Isn't Korean Air like one of the safest operators in the world? They used to be terrible but they changed their business culture and they've had a spotless record since 1999 basically.

ETA: At least that is what I recall from a Malcolm Gladwell book I believe.

Yeah, after they hired a westerner to run the company.

Damn, I've flown on flydubai. They have crews from all over. Our flight attendants were usually Asian.

And a lot of their pilots are British.

I thought it was just a light on the plane but some reports indicate a fire or explosion on the plane.

Might have been the landing lights. Looks like it fell out of the sky.

That's what I thought too. Airport is currently closed so it happened last minute on airport property apparently.

Except for the few mins of free fall time where they all knew they were crashing. I can't imagine it, that is my worst nightmare.

and I was just thinking how it's been a while since...and now...this sucks...

looks like them high winds that ripped thru chicago etc got to russia

they was 60-70 mph no matter where they came from, deadly to a plane

I didn't think so on my flight from CLT to MSY in September. Hit some really bad turbulence, and the cabin began making an extremely loud whistling sound. Would not do again

I was on an Air China flight out of IAH last month and over the Rockies I was convinced we were going down. I have never experienced turbulence where if you weren't strapped in you would come out of your seat.

I get anxiety when flying, but only feared for my life one time. We were coming back stateside via Paris. About 2 hours into the flight as we made it over Greenland, the plane started violently shaking every 45 seconds or so. You could hear it coming and then it would just shake out of control. I swore we were going down right then. The lady next to me actually grabbed my hand at one point.

I later read that it had something to do with two oceans/seas intersecting and creating a weird turbulence in that area.

Hmmm.

Literally thousands of planes fly out of Dubai every day and land without any problems. Maybe it was this instead?

State media reported winds of 97 kph (60 mph) at the time of the crash.
