Similar story for me except our driveway was considerably higher and uphill the whole way so you couldn’t just idle back down you had to give it some gas.

You have to understand in Louisiana if you were not backing the truck up correctly at the ramp by age 12, daddy was going to whoop your arse in front of the whole boat ramp.

i mean to be fair, my family couldn't afford a boat and at the age of 30 I bought my family's first one.

Also to be fair, I've backed up trailers hauling lawn mowers, trimmers, etc so it wasn't AS hard, but I remember the first time backing up a trailer when I was 16. fricking sucked.

I thought this was gonna be about people that somehow submerge their trucks in water at the launch and had to be towed out. I don’t understand how that happens.

Exactly. That’s how I learned when I bought a boat many years ago. After two years of boating and backing it into a garage, I bought a an 18 foot custom kitchen trailer and could parallel place that thing in real tight spots at music festivals for a weekend of vending.

in the 80's I went to a boat launch on Saturday morning to be picked up by boat. Missed the time commitment and spent 2 hours watching people launch, and drinking bourbon and coke. It was funny , all the mishaps occured

Simple. Just turn wheel opposite of the way you want the boat to go.

No shite. I’ve never just sat around and laughed at anyone at the boat launch that is struggling.

What kind of person does that?

I’ll even go help guys that are with their kids and/wife to take the pressure off them even though they are trying to help, sometimes you can sense the tension and stress.

It’s easy for us that have done it 100’s of times.

It’s a huge deal for some people that aren’t used to it. Just go help and maybe use it as a teaching moment.

Saw this guy at the boat ramp a few years ago. To add insult to injury, his boat floated away… people got the boat and towed him out, when he opened the doors… lol…sorry

You would think if you own a boat you should be able to back up like a pro.

Maybe he just got said boat. Maybe you should have helped the guy. Maybe the pressure of some losers watching him and laughing caused performance anxiety for the poor fella.

2 weeks ago at bayou sorrell, 3 of us were getting are stuff together, dude smooth bypassed us and crookedly took up the center of a 3 bay launch. Exits and opens both truck doors and begins to load his boat. a-hole had everyone 2 blocked. He finally gets message and dumps boat. We all launch and leave and see him plowing and his buddy runs to front to get bow down. Idiot forgot the plug.

I’ll help anyone launch and pick up their boat. What pisses me off the most are the people who pull up and proceed to get their shite ready right in front of the launch instead of doing it out of the way until they’re ready to launch
