I gotta little yapper too. Almost 15 yrs old. Love that stinker, but he's got severe attachment issues that we only found out about around a year ago when my mom in law house sat.

He would howl randomly, esp at night. When I was told about it, I felt horrible. A few years ago we brought him w/ us for his first and only fam vacation.

He was a nervous wreck the entire week. If I wasn't in the house, he'd whine. And he got out from under the fence twice... Can't believe he didn't get ran over... he just sat beside the driver's door waiting for me to come.

Now we just give him lots of pills. Pills are good.

They aren't required to wear a Service Dog vest either. They can ask what service the dog provides and my answer is 'she alerts me when I'm about to have an event' and that's all they're legally entitled to. It also happens to be true.

Kindly frick off with this bullshite.

We've had dogs with pretty bad separation anxiety and the best solution we found was another dog. It sounds counterintuitive but two dogs really is easier than one because they keep each other company.

Sure, if you've got two Great Dane's you're gonna need a coal shovel for a pooper scooper and buy your dog food by the truckload. We had a wire haired fox terrier that was a handful until we brought home a lab rescue and then they became inseparable buddies. They even died within a few months of each other.

Cute little puppy derg.
Does your vet have a boarding facility?

We leave ours at Animal Hospital in West Monroe.
They also catch her up on her shots while there.
Maybe that's why she yells at up after picking her up.

I’ve had great experiences with the rover App.

Found a reliable person where I live with a big fenced yard for my pup.

I would do my research on any boarding place under consideration. I brought my dogs when they were younger to a reputable trainer/boarding facility. I noticed they were both skittish and became highly aggressive towards strangers after being there. About a year or so ago I noticed a story where this place was being shut down and investigated due to animal cruelty. A prior employee leaked videos of how they'd "train" the dogs. It had me mad enough to go do some damage.

Ours has cameras all over the place that you can check, and they post pictures all day onto Facebook. Anything can happen, but we feel like cameras and them knowing people are often checking in certainly prevents a lot of bullshite.

Also, make sure they require trial visits to test the dog's personality, and that they keep dogs separated by size or personality, etc.

Do you have a local dog daycare place that also boards? That way the dog can get used to playing with other dogs before it is boarded.

We take our lab once a week to play and he will try to tear the door off to get there. Always come back home for a day of play and sleeps for hours. Best money to spend if you have a big young lab.

Is it a Chi thing? A neighbor had one and whenever he saw them take their luggage down, it started to act sick. After the third Thursday night trip to an emergency vet they realized they were being played.
Once they had left, the dog was fine. I fed said hound while they were gone and the first separation I checked on him every two daylight hours.
For such a small dog, with such a small brain, so much reasoning and acting ability.

I have a fenced in backyard, cameras, dog door, and automatic feeder. Longest I will leave my dog alone is 48 hours, and I try to get someone to come visit with her for about 15 minutes because she goes on a hunger strike. When they come over she gobbles down her food.

When I'm gone for a week I have a relative come stay with her. She's a spoiled bitch.

I’m so lucky. Our dog loves being boarded. I don’t know what they do to him there, but my wife has a bag she packs him in when we take him. When he sees that bag come out, he freaks the frick out. Jumping in the car. Maybe they get him laid when he goes, I don’t know. But he loves it.

Same here. I think they allow mine in the "spa" with all the female dogs and he just has his way. I have no clue but whatever. He loves that shite. If I say "camp", he sometimes pisses himself with excitement.

i love my dogs. Still call my two current dogs by the names of my old ones that died a few years ago. again i love my dogs, but they are fricking dogs. They'll get over you being gone for 5 days. 5 days, 5 minutes, it makes no difference to them. They'll love you the same no matter what, which is why dogs are awesome.

leave them home and have someone stay with them. A niece or nephew that can drive is a good choice, or get a neighbor to come by. You probably need someone to water plants and get the mail anyway.
You could give a 16 year old $200 to sleep over for 5 nights and keep them company, and that's probably less than half of what you would pay to send them to a boarding place where they'll be locked in a room by themselves for 20-22 hours out of the day.
