I finally figured out why people in Mandeville ride around town with this.
It's a status thing. To show that they use the high end car wash facility. An emblem, mostly Range Rovers and QX 80's.

A true high-end car wash doesn't need tape because they wash a car totally by hand, they don't put it in an oversized dishwasher.

Any automated car wash uses them. It’s not status, it’s too lazy to take the tape off or unaware women.

I get my car washed two or three times a week. (It's black and shows dirt easily)
I take the tape off at the destination of my next errand.
