Blue Crab Traps

Kind of depends on where you will be crabbing.
We use the circle drop nets sometimes. If we are in a boat or in a little deeper water, the metal cages are better

The string with the chicken next is the way to go if you are crabbing by the lake near Bayou Lacombe.

Jambalaya Traps are useless. They move so slow just catch it with your hands

Get you some ring nets, some string, and cut up a pool noodle for the float at the end of the string.

Here in Louisiana you can buy wire traps from various places.

Alario Bro’s in Westwego and Southern Wire in Racelsnd are two that come to mind.

In Louisiana the regulations say you need a fishing license, gear license, and escape rings in the trap. ( for small crabs ).

Don’t know the Mississippi regulations. There is probably a good commercial fishing store on the coast.

Aren’t you limited on the amount of traps with just a regular fishing license?

Edit: yep, limit of 10, anything more you need a commercial license..

Unless you have a place on the water, ring nets are much easier and take up less space..

You can either do it like the poors down by Slipper where the drainage ditches flow out, or you can register 6 metal box traps to a boat and set them up in one of the river basins.

Down in Lakeshore, where Pinchers is, they’re stacked everywhere. I bet you could walk up to pretty much any place down there with cash and get 6 off of em.

Kent and Sues down that way has boiled crabs if you’re craving them today.
