FYI to folks going
Be prepared to sit in traffic for 3 hours getting in and 2 hours getting out. Unless you wanna head to the base at daylight.
Military airshows are a cluster frick. One way in and one way out. It’s not built for efficiency.

Is there somewhere nearby that you can watch some of it? I'd rather miss some to avoid the traffic

Really wish more Cold War era jets were still flying and could perform at air shows like these. I know there’s not a need for so many different types of fighter jets anymore but I just think all the different designs we used to have were sick.

I know most shows I've been to there is a guy (Randy Ball) who flys a MIG-17 I believe. Beautiful swept wing design.

I went to this one a few years back and it was fine. There was some traffic, but nothing crazy.

The air show will have a small addition to the traffic already down there due to the Plaquemines LNG project. There are 8,000 workers 30 minutes south of Belle Chasse every day. LA 23 north is fricked in the afternoons even on Saturdays.

This past Sunday I drove down there for the first time in 25 years to Myrtle Grove.

I was surprised at all the development in Jesuit Bend. I guess that is where half the parish relocated after Katrina.

At least Entergy is being proactive on the new lines where the MidBarataria Diversion is planned for.

Your traffic comment is grossly exaggerated. Yes just like any huge event there is going to be traffic like an LSU football game but not 3 hours. Just leave a little early, pack an ice chest for the drive, lower your windows and enjoy want God has given you. It’s going to be an awesome day!

The PLNG Project is changing their Saturday and Sunday schedule that weekend to help accommodate the air show.

The work hours will 4:00AM - 1:30PM

It’s been several years since I’ve been down there. There’s a ton of parking so the bottleneck entering flowed fairly well.

Bumping this thread since show is this weekend and we will be bringing our boys.

I was hoping that I could bring a cooler with drinks and lunch, leave it in car, and make our way in and out of the show as the day goes on instead of being forced to stay out on tarmac for 6 hours. Website is saying no coolers allowed but I am wondering if this counts for keeping it in the car as well.

Bonus: I was also wanting to bring a small tent and more or less tailgate out the back of our SUV while we are not inside the show area. Is this a possibility or no?

You wont have access to your vehicle. If you park at the back gate, you'll take a bus to/from the show.

I remember parking by the main gate once and I thought we walked in, but you have to go through security. Leaving the main gate parking and trying to get back to the northshore was terrible.

I went a few years ago and maybe sat in traffic for 20min. I have a military ID tho so don’t know if that changes anything but it wasn’t bad by any means.
