How easy could he have armed himself?
I have no idea. But there isn't any indication that he was armed at any point before, during, or after the threat and subsequent lockdown.

"You guys are making way too much of a deal about this. The guy was clearly joking. The administration should be fired because they obviously can't handle these types of students."

The court is allowing him to go to school as a condition of his release. That doesn't mean he actually gets to go back. He'll likely face a disciplinary hearing from the University. Universities move slowly.
I don't see how they can let him back on campus for any proceedings. His presence would be massively disruptive.

What makes you think it was a serious threat? How do you define serious threat? Hint: It doesn't just mean that the threatened actions are themselves serious.

If a white kid had done that he'd be locked away in a federal prison on terrorism charges. This is complete bullshite. If the University doesn't expell the punk, someone should use BR's advice and pull a code red.

You mean like these guys.

So let me get this straight.

White kid makes vague "threats" in the line of "black people might not want to go to school tomorrow." On an anonymous message board

Gets tracked down, arrested and charged with terrorism.

Black kid makes clear, detailed threats, including how many white people he will shoot using what, and is expressly racist, and gets a slap on the wrist.

Idk. Maybe the part where he says "This is not a joke."? Maybe? No?

Listen. We can all agree that the little scumbag should be charged and expelled from the school. If you need me to explain what factors may go into assessing a threat as serious or credible I'm happy to do that.

Evidence of planning, procurement of implements, a history of violence, a history of similar statements, a history of mental instability and psychological intervention, ties to radical organizations, etc. They probably searched the kid's computer and didn't so much as find a black power site on it, though I know nothing of the internals of the investigation. He was released to his mother's care with little to no bail, so I'm assuming the feds deduced that he was just a shithead popping off on social media.

You admit to making assumptions and then use a phrase like "It's clear..."

And then there's subjectivity in the word "serious". It was serious enough for him to be arrested in the first place.

Don't try that with the OT. They have their minds made up. It's a conspiracy against whites.

CNN stopped reporting on this when they found out the specifics. I saw it once on the crawler, but it was sort of vague

Do you have a link for this?

This is all fricking looney. I can handle universities getting run over by #BLM activists because academia has cultivated this ideology. They're also just school and are free to make stupid decisions if they want to.

But law enforcement? Do you understand how terrifying it is that there is thought/speech police out there waiting to destroy any white person for saying the wrong thing (like using the n-word) yet a black person can make a direct threat to kill white people for being "white devils" and is released onto the streets just days later?

It's not that I think he should be locked up forever, but it's the double standard. A university president says "institutional racism is where you believe you don't have the opportunity to succeed because of your race" and he's crucified as the worst person on the planet. Black kid says he's going to kill a white person and he's just troubled. Ridiculous.

Yes. I'm making assumptions that based upon the fact that federal authorities didn't hold him, they don't think he's going to actually harm anyone. That's a pretty safe assumption.

Oh well let me clarify then. By "not serious" I meant he wuddinreallygondonuffin.

I could be arrested for telling you that I'm going to shoot you in the nuts for being pedantic and annoying. That doesn't make it a serious threat.
