Black Barber Shops / Open late

Nothing racist here but just curious as to why black barber shops stay open so late. I'll drive by them sometimes late at night, sometimes midnight or later, and they'll be open with customers getting haircuts. I've never been compelled to get a haircut late at night. Am I missing something here?

two separate instances in the last few weeks i've seen an older black guy sitting outside his house shaving his face.

Sounds like you just saw a weird dude outside shaving his face. Maybe his ol lady was hogging the bathroom or something.

I wrote about this in a thread a few months ago. I lived in Gentilly pre-Katrina. A barber shop's phone number was one digit off from my number. I would get calls at 3 AM asking "are you open for a cut". I had to change my number.

that's what it thought the first time. first guy looked homeless and shaving his face outside. didn't think much of it.
second guy was definitely not homeless. he lives in one of my rentals. i drove up and he's outside sitting at a foldout table shaving away. old lady was not home.

Barber shops in black communities are sometimes kind of a social hangout...they play a lot of dominoes and shite after hours for entertainment.

God is my witness, one of the best stories I've been told from a little kid was from the kid down the road from my mother. Mom white. Dad black. They had daddy day slash write about your dad and this little man went raw.
Said " my Daddy doesn't work a job. He goes to Red's. They throw dice."
That barber shop had odd hours.
