No name given for the “passenger”
We have an excess of mentally ill people. Instead of just restraining, go ahead and finish the job and give the lunatic what he wanted.
What is going to happen to the “passenger?”

Likely panic/anxiety attack unruly passenger was experiencing. Subduing is a sufficient response.

Do like the cops sometimes do - all the passengers pile on and throw punches, while repeatedly yelling "quit resisting".

I think jiu jitsu training should be mandatory for every law enforcement and corrections officer. Alot of departments, counties, or states reimburse officers for gym memberships. Every LEO should know how to effectively and safely physically control and restrain an individual without harming the individual unless required. Jiu Jitsu is the martial art of control.
In this situation, any civilian with proper training could do the same. Everyone should know how to protect themselves at all times.

Would’ve been a win-win if the guy had been allowed to jump out the plane

This diversity is why we’re so strong. We were a failed state until the third world saved us.

Many LEO’s train at our gym.
One of our black belts was at Wal Mart with his daughter and a crack head started punching the hell out of a solo cop trying to arrest him.
He took the perp down and helped the cop cuff him. The cop now trains at our gym.

But the 37-year-old Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt sprung into action, using his martial arts training to restrain the man for about 10 minutes - and then was called on a second time when the passenger slipped his restraints. Josh controlled him for 20 to 30 minutes until the plane made an emergency landing in Miami.
Well done. Bravo. Sounds like the dude was having psych problems.

He first noticed how the other passenger was acting erratically. "He was just talking and acting crazy," he said. "I could tell he wasn't going to calm down, so I just kept an eye on him because there were females and young kids around."
Again Bravo and Well Done. However some feminists are going to label him a sexist for that.

It’s like stereotypes exist for a reason, Ali Babba there barely has a grasp of the English language, but his cussing is perfection.
Looking back on it that’s exactly how my sister and I mastered Spanish. Whenever our parents conversation in our house turned to Espanol we new some choice words were in play, lol.

I keep waiting for the day I can actually use 20 years of jits training in a real world situation myself.
