I wish the WWII Museum was located outside of the city, it's the only thing I care to visit. Screw the rest of the dump.

New Orleans is the better tourist destination over all of those cities listed because of our rich history and culture. Something Mitch is destroying.

They can't, directly, as it's under the auspices of the Smithsonian Institution.

Or maybe the failures are just because of crappy, Democratic politicians who have had a stranglehold on the city for years.

I was at IAH Monday night, while riding the Disney train to the Marriott and I had a great conversation with an older gentleman from New Orleans that has lived in Houston since Katrina. He said initially he really missed New Orleans but now he doesn't even enjoy visiting there anymore. Kinda sad to hear a man that lived somewhere for 50+ years say he has no desire to even visit his former home.

OP didn't even quote all of the crazy shite he said.

He went on to say that the price of taking them down is nothing compared to what they have cost us, because smart people won't move here because of the statues, tourists won't come because of the statues, and businesses have left because of the statues.

I'm not kidding. He said that.

I've lived in the city my entire life (30+years) and I've never considered leaving til recently. At this point if I was offered something, I'm not sure it would even be a difficult decision to leave. I'm so sick of things constantly being stacked in the favor of those who pay taxes. The city has so much to offer, yet the polticians can't seem to get their own personal motives out of the way to take advantage.

You see this lack of reality with a lot of democrats. I really hope these guys say this shite to fool the morons that vote for them because if they legitimately believe the shite that comes from their mouth, we have some seriously mentally handicapped people holding public office.

Moon Landrieu was elected by the 12th Ward of New Orleans to the Louisiana House of Representatives in 1960 to succeed J. Marshall Brown. There he was one of the few white legislators who voted against the "hate bills" of the segregationists which the legislature passed in the effort to thwart the desegregation of public facilities and public schools.

In 1962, Landrieu ran for New Orleans City Council and lost, but in 1966, he was elected Councilman-at-large. In 1969, he led a successful push for a city ordinance outlawing segregation based on race or religion in public accommodations, an issue that had been addressed nationally in the Civil Rights Act of 1964. As councilman, Landrieu also voted to remove the Confederate flag from the council chambers and voted to establish a biracial human relations committee. He succeeded with both votes.

Landrieu as mayor[edit]
Moon Landrieu was elected mayor of New Orleans in the election of 1970 to succeed fellow Democrat Victor Schiro. His opponent in the Democratic primary runoff was Louisiana Lieutenant Governor Jimmy Fitzmorris, who was supported by most of the municipal political establishment. Running on a "progressive" platform, Landrieu won an unexpected victory by assembling a coalition comprising 90 percent of black voters and 39 percent of whites.

interesting that ol' Mitch chose the year 1960 to begin the downfall of New Orleans to Houston and Atlanta

wonder what really began the downfall?
