Nola's failures go way back.

1933 - public works department created the Emergency Housint corporation
1934 - National housing act of '34
1937 - US Housing Autority was created.

And so on and so on... this is the time period you created these huge arse projects in the urban centers.

1944 and the next couple decades during and post war you had the Serviceman Readjustment Act (GI bill)
1947 - Congress est the Housing and Home financing agency

-The VA, HOLO, FHA
-'exclusionary covenants' were written into title deeds and r al estate neighborhood redlining.

-suburban expansion post-war took off while many blacks in the south were effectively barred from homeownership.

-in the race to the burbs, business and manufacturing followed the middle class

Leaving these massive projects like the St Thomas and Desire to turn into breeding grounds for the poor.

New Orleans was on the forefront of all this meddling by the federal government into housing and what we have now is the end result.

None of this will be reversed over night. But seeing how the vicious cycle was started and perpetuated is the only way to find a way out of this decay.

I don't think government policy to fix government policy is the way to go.

I have family that lived here in public housing at this time period and have heard stories of the drastic change/complete 180 that happend in some instances less than a decade.

Let the downvotes come.

I would say yes

But either way, we can point blame wherever we want, as long as we understand what got us to this point.

And yes part of that is systemic racism, racism today still seen by the dem party. let the DVs rain down

Yeah, no law on any books that prevents blacks from doing anything. Whereas, there are laws preventing discrimination based on race, as well as thousands of scholarships for black kids at top universities, as well as millions of Americans bending over backwards to accommodate them.

And they still can't get thier shite together.

And if it's "racism," why is it that African immigrants tend to do very well here, while the domestics, not so much? Same race, right?

I was more just thinking about the Democratic Party wanting to keep the black race under their thumb as a voting block and depending on the Dems. Democrats are racist in the fact that they think blacks can't pull themselves up by their own bootstraps. You disagree?

Yeah I'm sure all the corruption had nothing to do with it.

NASA helped put Houston on the map. Not there in 1960. Of course, he'll omit that part.

Landrieu is so smart and effective, and the City is poised for greatness, I'm sure we'll all look back on the next 20 years and be amazed at the renaissance of NOLA.

Who knew the statues were such anchors?

I do. I thin they do believe they can pull themselves up. They just don't want them to. They want dependent, loyal voters, and that's what they have.

Michoud. Came along much later.

It didn't put NOLA on the map. The Johnson Space Center did for Houston.

I know. I'm just pointing out that NOLA has had opportunities to succeed and has largely squandered them.

What did Houston have that we didn't that caused the oil and gas companies to go there? We have the advantage of being much closer to the offshore action, and we got terribly passed by.
