If the blockades aren't old furniture and burning tires they aren't trying hard enough.

Is 90 days long enough to see if it works?

Maybe they should do it Thunderdome style.

Wrong way to approach the problem. Birmingham needs more police on the streets and tougher prosecutors

I’m not sure what else can be done without using the El Salvador method of locking all the gang members up.

Or… we just arrest, prosecute and incarcerate the ones who break the laws and hang life sentences on 3x offenders?

It’s a small percentage of people committing the vast majority of the crime and as you continue removing the cancer from the community the community starts healing and improving pretty damn quick.

Houston does something similar in the SW part of town at night. Forced me to move my hoes to a different part of town.

Breaking news- woodfin said he going to close all businesses in the city limits of Birmingham for 90 days also to see if he can stop shoplifting and armed robbery. He said " we have to be proactive to bring crime down in Birmingham" .

When asked what this will do to the local economy he said " it's something we're just going to have to endure for the community well being".

This has a lot to do with the rampant illegal street racing and exhibition driving going on downtown too. Can’t race through a roadblock.

Beginning July 8, several streets in the East Lake neighborhood will be blocked as the city launches its Project Safe Streets, a 90-day pilot crime prevention program.

There are a lot of streets in East lake especially off 1st Ave n where the airport bought peoples houses for future expansions that never happened. Now you literally have entire blocks of neighborhoods where no one has lived for over 10 years. The entire area should be bulldozed as it's been a haven for drugs and squatters ever since.

Plot twist: The criminals live in the neighborhoods they’re putting blockades around

I have no problem with that. If you can’t keep ‘em out of my neighborhood, lock em in theirs.
