i live in Montegut and avoid Houma like it's the fricking plague.....can get damn near anywhere in the state without having to drive through that shithole.
????
I know own Houma is far from perfect. Would never pretend otherwise. But Montegut would be the worst place in the world if PAC and Dulac didn't exist (I know fishing is good, but I can fish all those areas from cocodrie or dularge)

My grandfather used to run the sugar mill in Montegut back in the 60's. Very familiar with the area. Parents grew up there. It has gone to shite in the past 30 years. It's sad, because hearing them talk about it, it seems like it used to be a pretty decent place.

According to the web, its Houma. In fact, I've never been down that stretch of Hwy at all. New Iberia is the farthest I've been.

it's really been less than 30 since it tanked.
yeah consolidating the parish government started the downfall, but really after the storms in the 2000s is when it sped up drastically.
flooding in '02, '05 & '08 chased all the good people out and trash slowly moved in because of cheap property values.
this place is nothing like it was when i was a kid roaming these streets.

I grew up there. Have lived in New Orleans for 25 years. Guess what... when I retire, I'm going back to Shreveport.
When I retire, going back to Nola.

I lived in Louisiana for 30 years. I have never been to:
Marksville
Thibodaux
Abbeville
I think I have been to just about everywhere else from playing high school sports, watching family play hs sports, and fishing trips.
