LONG TERM... We should be between systems Thursday which means a dry Thursday...and guidance then also points to another major system in the region this weekend. Still a lot of uncertainty going into the Christmas holiday regarding the timing and strength of the next cold front. Guidance has had a tough time determining if we will be warm or cold for this system. That has a bearing on what kind of weather we can expect obviously. With that being said have maintained a blend in the latter part of the forecast period due to the lack of confidence in the long range forecast. 13/MH

The snow the other day knocked out power everywhere.
The snow we had last week was a very heavy, wet snow. That brought lots of trees and limbs down everywhere. Wet snow is heavy, dry snow is very light and powdery.

Ice came down the Mississippi River at that time.
I remember that, too. Fricken' icebergs.

The snow we had was powder. Like what I’ve experienced in Montana. Kids could roll around in it and their clothes were still dry.
Guess it just packed together better causing more weight

It was powder here too. BR and south had more of a wet snow.

The snow in Louisiana was not dry at all. Dry snow doesn't pack or stick to anything. The air has to be very cold and, of course, dry. It doesn't feel heavy and can be wiped off of a car as if it were just a dry pile of leaves.

When i wipes it off my windshield my windshield was dry. That was around daylight that morning. As the day went on it melted a little and became wet.
Of course it wasn’t complete dry snow but it was the closest I have ever seen here

The only time I've seen it was in Maryland about 3 or 4 years ago the year that Atlanta was completely shutdown from snow and ice for days. I was there for work and stuck with no way to get home.

Canadian Model temps for Christmas Morning @ 6AM:
This run suggests the rain will precede the colder air with no wintry mix for LA.

Christmas snow is going to happen in Louisiana whether we like it or not!

Here in Ascension Parish it was wetter and heavier than Kate Upton at an outdoor rain forest all-you-can-eat buffet.

Again, official forecasts will NOT reflect what the models are showing until they consistently begin to show something run after run after run. If you've been following this thread, you'd know that the models have only recently begun to become more consistent over the past 4 or 5 runs. If they stay that way through Wednesday, you'll see the official forecasts begin to reflect it.
Even once they start reflecting what the models are showing, they won't be nearly as dramatic as what the models are showing just because we're in the south - chances are we won't get freezing temps and snow/sleet. Correctly forecasting that type of weather here is a meteorologist's Achilles heel. See the snow event we had on 12/8/17 -- we had local meteorologists predicting a high of 43 with clouds that day. We ended up with 6" of snow on the ground.

New GFS run coming out now. Will update ASAP.

So far, still looking at mid 40's and dry on Christmas Eve for highs. Although rain moves in from the southeast that night and the temps aren't nearly as cold as before.
