WTF does the FAA have to do with sea turtles and charitable donations. Our leftist leaders are bizarre but this takes the cake.

quote:

Among the requirements, SpaceX will coordinate with a “qualified biologist” on lighting inspections to minimize the impact on sea turtles, operate an employee shuttle between the city of Brownsville and the facility, and perform quarterly cleanups of the local Boca Chica Beach.

The company will also contribute to local education and preservation efforts – including preparing a historical context report of the events of the Mexican War and Civil War that took place in the geographic area as well as replicating and installing missing ornaments on a local historical marker. The company will also make annual contributions of $5,000 each to organizations that protect ocelots and endangered birds of prey, as well as a state recreational fishing program.

The FAA also issued new rules for closing the public highway that passes by SpaceX’s facility – such as requiring the road be open on 18 specified holidays and most weekends.

FAA is simply the primary federal agency in charge of the entire approval. They’ve got Fish and Wildlife in on it too. Army Corps of Engineers were as well.
Today is good news and has been a long time coming. Now they just need to do static fires on the booster and starship before stacking and launching together.
I predict it will be Halloween before we get an orbital launch attempt.

I guess I can SORT of understand the reasoning for some of this if you can get inside the mind of an environmental wacko ...but this...

None of this has anything to do with SpaceX or Tesla. It has everything to do with politics and Elon Musk.

I am going with sooner.

The FAA boondoggle has not slowed down any development work. I believe the last of the raptor engines have also arrived in the past week.

They have done about all testing, shy of static fires.

That candle is about to be lit.

Musk is being punished for not seeing the world the same way our ruling class does....

They already have monuments and other sites pertaining to those wars in the area.
Also, they have a port with traffic going to it 24-7 right down the road. What good does it do to have employees park in town and take busses and vans to the work site.

I have know idea, but I could see this administration mandating the company provide the information necessary to turn the area into some kind of historical landmark forcing Elon to move

Musk probably does not care really. Starbase is going to be R&D anyways. They are building out at the Cape in Florida to launch starships and also moving forward with launching in International waters platforms.

Pretty sure the next R president can clean up this mess from Biden for the right donation from Musk.

Had no idea he was moonlighting...President AND head of the FAA? He should cut back a little.

It is only 20 miles. musk might just have a fleet of autonomous Teslas going back and forth.

Most folks have no clue how typical the Federal Regulatory Process is nor how many separate consultations are required for regulatory and permitting approval process.

This is typical stuff.

There is a SCOTUS Case on the docket that may severely curtail this regulatory process and streamline it while requiring Congress to pass laws that specifically delegate regulatory processes to cabinet-level agencies. Which would be a win for many different types of activity as most of these projects adhere to rules and regs regardless of the level of scrutiny and oversight applied by a Cabinet level agency.

But to sum it up: they aren’t picking on Elon Musk. They screw everyone equally.

As President, I would retire 75% of the Federal Government on day one and cap the number of employees each agency may have. Paid retirement, leave all your shite, and just get out. Remaining 25% would be relocated all over the country. FBI HQs, you get moved to Rapid City, South Dakota.

Everyone has to avoid endangered species. Am I missing something? Seems like typical mitigation due to the impacts his operation is doing.

I didn't read the article, but if they're getting industrial tax credits like Louisiana I can see educational donations being a good middle ground. The company can still destroy the roads without paying for them while still paying their obligations to the local education system.

Some of the other stuff is stupid. But if Elon agreed to it, then so be it.

I grew up down there and the sea turtle place is a major attraction at SPI
The Turtle Lady was an icon. Took a few field trips out there and it was always fun. Nice to see they are continuing her work.

The ocelots are endangered and some have kind of moved into that marshy area in between SPI and boca chica. I remember going camping with my dad and sister in arroyo city and seeing a couple ocelots in the thicket. Cool sight.

The war history stuff is whatever. Most of the battles took place in actual Brownsville and not way out there.

I think I saw last night a picture showing all 32 raptor engines have been installed on the booster already.
