Has anyone here had this happen to them?

I was lifting something and heard a pop and had extreme pain in my inner elbow area. Went to the doctor and now have to have surgery for it.
I was wondering if anyone has been through this and what to expect after surgery?

You'll be placed on the PUP list and be out for 12 weeks.

Get a second opinion, lots of research states no difference in long term outcomes with or without surgery….. lot of variables to look into

I had a total bicep tendon and labrum tear on my right shoulder. It was years before it felt decent enough under stress.

My bicep tendon is now a few inches shorter and screwed into my humerus.

Happened while deployed and the USAF LTC that did the surgery said it was the worst tear he'd seen. Damn IED.

Complete tear here, recovery is slooooow. You'll get back to 100% but it takes some time.

Don’t repair and look like Popeye!

Distal needs to be repaired, proximal not so much.

I had that and went to a massage therapist first. He was able to break down the muscle so it could heal correctly. If I had a white board I could draw you a picture to explain it the way he did to me. Imagine taking a small handful of dry spaghetti, then breaking it in half. Then putting it back together but all the sticks are crooked instead of straight. The MT can break them down so they can heal in straight lines instead of crooked. I think it only cost about $100 and I haven't had a problem since, after having the recurring pain for years. Your injury may be more severe and require surgery, but it won't hurt to get a second or third opinion first.

Note - I said massage therapist, not masseuse, there is a difference.

OP tear is near the elbow, not near shoulder

Can’t comment on the bicep specifically, but I’ve torn both triceps and both pecs. I’ve had corrective surgery on all except the last (left) pec tear. Triceps both came back to near 100% within about 8-9 months, and I’m a fairly heavy lifter. Surgically repaired pec took a solid year and a half to get back to where I felt fairly normal, but I’ve never regained full strength. Pec that wasn’t repaired came back in about 8 months or so of very light lifting.

You can start using it pretty quickly. You won't be able to do strenuous lifting, but you won't be in a sling or anything for an extended period. How bad was the tear?

Tore slap lesion.. not sure if it the same. I never got mine fixed and it works just fine. However, I do have slight pain occasionally, but not unbearable.

Surgery is okay. Recovery is a bitch. You’ll be wearing al kinds of arm stabilizers for months.
