I like my GMC with baby diesel pick up truck. It gets 26 mpg on the hwy and has a smooth ride.

Just bought a 2024 Ford Escape last December. It wasn't anything fancy. It gets great gas mileage. It is a 3 cyl with the 8 speed tranny.

quote:

1) Smooth, Quiet Ride (Check)
2) Reliability (still early)
3) Gas mileage (38 MPG on highway)
4) Space (okay)
5) Resale (verdict is still out)

Kind of off topic but where did all the Lexus RS300's go? That jellybean SUV thing. Late 90's early 2000 you couldn't swing a cat in BR with out hitting 1 at an intersection. I see an occasional LS400/430 running around but no RS300/350's.

How long do you plan to keep the car? It may not impact what you buy but it could impact the strategy for getting the best bang for the buck.

Spend the extra money so you look like a successful professional. Cheap cars, shoes and clothes will cost you clients or sales.

The difference between a car getting 20 of 27 mpg at 50k miles is @ 650 gallons. At $3 a gallon it will cost you $2000 more a year., you will make that upon sales or a promotion. People want to do business with winners, not thrifty cheap people who are counting MPG and minimizing their expenses to take home a few bucks.

I drove a Tundra and covered 6 states for 30 years. I know the gas mileage sucked but comfort, reliability and room outweighed the cost of gas. Plus the company I worked for paid for my gas. I drove 50-60K each year.
