Bend, OR.

Could be biased because I live here but it's incredible, although expensive.

None of this will be looked down upon anywhere outside of major metro areas.

There are plenty of rednecks in Washington and Oregon.

Now finding work will be another story. Oh...and their regulations.

Have nothing tying me down. Would rather not live with an overwhelming majority of liberals. Otherwise, open to suggestions.

Shoot.

Idaho, Montana, Utah

Beautiful areas that are cheap and has a lack of liberals.

Watch out for the souveiergn citizens though.

He's young and looking for a place to work post college as well, so some of these remote places would suck balls for a mid 20s single guy. Sure the scenery and tranquility is nice, but you need social interaction to really be happy at a young age IMO

Bryson City, WNC

Some of the best mountain biking in the south.

Minutes from the AT and literally countless other trails.

Minutes from white water rafting.

Elk season coming soon.

Nantahal Lake. Fontana Lake.

GSMNP is less than 40 minutes away.

World renowned trout fishing.

Some of the best food outside of Asheville in WNC.

Great bars/breweries.

Conservative leaning residents abound.

Two hours from Asheville, Atlanta, Chattanooga.

What are you waiting on, baw? You won't regret it.

And Alaska is great but Anchorage is a shithole. They call it Los Anchorage for a reason

Juneau is much better but is probably too small for some folks

Juneau, Boulder, Bozeman, Bend, Sandpoint would be the top 5

best places to raise an outdoor kid

Awesome place

Bend and Squamish are the only places I could see myself leaving Boulder for

#1 on that list, and the real #1

What we have here and the proximity of it to town is astonishing

I'm actually expecting an offer letter this week for a job in Jackson. "Affording" is relative to individuals. Will I be stuffing 4k a month into my 401k in Jackson? Unlikely, but I can easily afford 2k a month rent on a cabin looking at the Tetons.

It's all whether I want to actually do it or not.

I'll take it you've never been to Juneau. Saltwater, freshwater, whitewater, game, more hiking trails than road and a ski area within sight of downtown.

I have spent plenty of time in Juneau and around Alaska. Boulder is straight up better for me as I am a climber and mountain biker. Things may be different if I were a fisherman or hunter though

The icefield itself would take years for one man to explore.

One thing we do lack is infrastructure. You'll find yourself alone more than with a crowd. The town is over 3,000 sq. miles, 1500 are an icefield with incredible mountains.

Boulder is a bigger city though, it has that going for it.

You have to really like the cold to live in some of those. Never been to anchorage, but I really like Bozeman. But the first time I went there it snowed. In mid-June. And not just a dusting, it was like an inch. I didn't even have a jacket with me.

What about the LA area? Maybe OC, which is still red at least for a few more years. The highest point in the lower 48 as well as the lowest are close by and everything in between as well. The whole ski and surf the same day. Plus the weather is relatively mild for most of the year.

LA has the San Gabriels and the Ocean. I'm not much of a desert guy, but yeah..for a large city LA does have a lot going for it.

Seattle does as well. You just have to drive a bit.
