Best Route from Opelousas to Bogalusa?

I will be driving from Opelousas to Bogalusa in a couple of weeks. My schedule would put me through Baton Rouge about noon-time. Knowing how bad traffic in BR has become, I wonder if it may be quicker to drive from Opelousas to New Roads, take the new bridge to St. Francisville and then Hwy 10 to Bogalusa.
Any suggestions?

I think taking LA 10 at St. Francisville and driving all the way to Bogalusa will be slow going. There are numerous small towns and reductions in speed along that route.
When I worked in Bogalusa I took 190 to LA 415, then I-10 to I-12 to Covington, then LA 21 to Bogadishu, I mean Bogalusa.
This was both before and after Katrina.
I know getting through Baton Rouge is a pain in the arse, but you will lose any time gained by going through St. Francisville once you get on LA 10.
