Best option for glasses/contacts without vision insurance?

So my wife has gotten to the point where her vision is beginning to be a problem. I’ve never had vision coverage and was blessed with pretty good eyesight. However, it’s time for her to do something, and I have zero experience is this department. Any advice is appreciated.

I've never had eye insurance as a child or an adult. Dr visit will run $80-$100. Contacts about $100. Glasses depending on how expensive the frames are will be $100-$600.

Check your medical insurance benefits as some plans offer limited vision coverage on general plans even without actual vision insurance. It may cover an annual eye exam. Also look into Sams Club and/or Costco for deals on contacts and eye glasses.

For most people, vision insurance is a waste of money

Wal Mart $95 for the visit and $120 for a 3 month supply of disposable contacts. That option was cheaper than the vision insurance for me. Glasses would be expensive though.

Does your work offer this? It's usually really cheap(mine is like $3 a payperiod).
I realize it's no help now...but for in the future.

Make a an appointment with an eye doctor to get both her glasses prescription and her contacts prescription. It will run you around $100.
Go online and find the best deal for frames and contacts.
Warby Parker sells single vision frames for $100.
Walgreens has a 25% off deal going on all contacts.

Plenty of places will do a visit for under $100.
Glasses from WarbyParker.com - they’ll send her 5 to try on and their pairs start at $95.

Walmart or the like for a prescription. Cheap.
Then go online to Zenni, eyebuydirect, etc and get 10 pairs for $200 or less. As low as $20 a pair.
I buy a pair of glasses from a brick and mortar every 2 years only because my 'free' insurance pays for it. Probably 10 other pairs that I swap between.

Get an exam at Walmart and then order glasses online.
Do NOT get suckered by America's Best. They've burned me twice.
