Then I read the Best of 225 list and remember exactly how shitty the options for food and entertainment are, and that nostalgia quickly fades.

Shitty logic IMHO. The lists fricking blow and aren't an accurate representation 99% of the time.

The point is, those winners are a joke. There is very good food and entertainment options here. They just (for the most part) left them off the list. Some of the winners I very much agree with however.

other than BBQ, what are some shitty winners? I think the Varsity is clearly the best live music venue. Chelsea's is really good as well for overall atmosphere, but the Varsity has better bands.

It's always been a terrible list. Definitely not a place to look for an actual guide to eating in the city.

Some of the picks are a joke, not going to disagree with that. But honestly there are a lot that are probably accurate and still disappointing options.

George's has a pretty legit debris roast beef special. I also love their thin fried catfish po-boy. Pretty damn close to authentic New Orleans po-boys.

But outside of George's, I agree it's pretty pathetic the lack of legit po-boy places.

this pisses me off so much, why the hell does this city not have a halfway legit poboy shop???

Dude, that was a joke category. Almost 60% of the people surveyed said "none of the above". Who else were they going to pick? Chandler Loupe? Smokey Bougeois (the reason I will never eat at George's no matter how good the food is)?

The real winner of that one was actually "None of the Above" with 58%. The voters got that one right.

honestly, I'm gonna crawfish on this one. I think its less the winners but the runner ups and lower etc that bothered me.

I don't have much of a problem with the food winners on second pass. BBQ just set me off.

Varsity is arguable to some for live music but to put Superior and Ringside up there for live music is very BR. Ahead of Chelseas? Come on. Nothing like cover band capital city.

Dempseys has a good pobuy. So does Chimes. Plenty of places do. Besides the bread, the ingredients are rather pedestrian for traditional poboys

Its an open kitchen. How many burger joints or restaurants for that matter have an open kitchen? The product isn't judged by health inspector ratings, does it taste good? yes it does.

As far as the Food and Drink list goes, obviously there are arguments for many that can be made for one place or another over the one that won. But just looking at the winners....

Best Breakfast: Another Broken Egg (chain)
Best Burger: Burgersmith (chain, albeit a Lafayette one)
Best Chargrilled Oysters (chain, albeit a New Orleans one)
Best Martini: Sullivan's (chain)
Best Restaurant for a Hot Date: Tsunami (chain)
Best Salad: J. Alexander's (chain)
Best Steak: Ruth's Chris (chain, albeit a New Orleans one)
Best Vegetarian Menu: Whole Foods (..........grocery store chain)

There are a lot of local spots on the list, but that's an awful lot of places that Baton Rouge had to import to have their "best"

You don't seem to understand that being at the top of the list doesn't automatically equate to being the best.

The first thing I prefaced was that there was plenty of room for argument about the list, but for the sake of dissecting the list I looked at the ones that won. Hell, I even put best in quotations at the end.

So the only thing you don't seem to understand is how to fully read a post before making a comment.

For the most part, no votes are tallied for this. It's a sham. The spots in "Best of 225" are negotiated in advertising package agreements and offered as incentives for new potential clients.
